What happened to Obama's coattails?

Lost amid the hype of Florida turning Obama blue is the fact that Republicans gained power at local levels across the state, including Hernando, Pasco and Pinellas counties.

Hernando's Democratic Party officials say the Obama camp is to blame: "We were hurt by the Obama campaign in the end," said Steve Zeledon, Hernando Democratic Club president. "They would not do anything to help local candidates."

Of course, the reasons for the losses at the Hernando level are more complex. At the same time Democrats in Hernando try to regroup, they are losing their local party chairman, Jay Rowden, who is stepping down. Read more here.

Truth Hurts and You Just Can't Take it...

The elections are over and the executives at the St. Petersburg Times need to sit back and absorb all the anger, slander and animosities that were used during this campaign time. There has to be one executive that has a wife or children, but more important, a soul. The things that have been said that caused emotional wounds that will never heal really weren't worth it, were they? God made us all equal, no one better and allowing innocent people to be humiliated in your columns was so unkind and inhuman. Was it worth it? Was it necessary? Maybe the Times blogs will change their style, start anew, be kinder and gentler. Maybe not.
