Tampa mayor hopeful Rose Ferlita gets award from city
Hillsborough County Commissioner Rose Ferlita, who says she'll be running for mayor of Tampa in 2011, is receiving an award from the city next week. And Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio will be handing it to her at a Women's History Month event titled "Women Taking the Lead to Save Our Planet" Tuesday at 11 a.m. in City Hall.
Ferlita's getting the Josephine Howard Stafford Memorial Award, given every year to a current or former female city employee who "demonstrates outstanding commitment to her position in the community," according to a press release. Ferlita was a City Council member from 1999 until 2006. Mary Bryan, and aide to council member Charlie Miranda, nominated Ferlita for the honor. Miranda, by the way, says he may run for Ferlita's commission seat when her term ends in 2010.
Previous winners of the Stafford award have been former mayor Sandy Freedman, assistant police chief Jane Castor, and lobbyist Kathleen Betancourt.

Charlie Miranda let the younger folks have a chance, your days are done and your ideas are stale or rather you have none. Mentor someone to run...do something good for a change.

No way Ferlita wins a Mayors race. In six years of elected office she has absolutely nothing to show for it. Nada,Zip,nothing. Just a bunch of grandstanding and mean spirited attacks on staff and people she disagrees with. She and Saul Sena split the S. Tampa fringes which leaves it wide open for someone else with any shred of credibility. When it is all over Tampa is still a conservative town. That dog just won't hunt.

Tampa a conservative town? Are you kidding Yanett? Only a RINO like Ferlita could win as a Republican. Real conservatives need not apply. This comes down to a runoff among whoever can get the most supporters to the polls. Ferlita and Buckhorn split south tampa, and in waltzes Tom Scott or some sleeper from West or North tampa.
