Charlie Justice has $71K on hand; Bill Young has $437K
State Sen. Charlie Justice, D-St. Petersburg, reports raising more than $86,000 for his congressional campaign against C.W. Bill Young, who raised more than $49,000. Not too shabby, given that most people see Young as virtually unbeatable. Justice had about $71,000 in his account as of June 30, and Young had $437,000

Not a bad start - but just a start.

$86K in a Congressional campaign....HAHAHA. Yeah lots of support there Charlie....you should act on the advice of those around you and drop out now.

Glad to see you ramping up.

He needs to keep raising the money and by the end of 2009 - I bet Justice will be over $500K.
PS - How much has Young received from Ray Sansom and his pals? I understand that McColuum is planning on keeping all of his contribution from Jay Odom.
How about Young?

Well, yes, that is impressive for Charlie, but he's only raised enough money to pay Mitch Kates' rent through next April.
The real question is whether or not Bill Young has actually started to fundraise yet, or is this just the spare change he picked up off the sidewalk? I know times are tough for Republicans, but I doubt it would take him many calls to raise another half-million.

Hey Numnuts at 3:58,
Bill Young serves in the U.S. House not the Florida House so I bet he has never even met Ray Sansom or Odom. Nice try though, now go back to your mom's basement.

Jay Odom gave the GOP over $1,000,000. Neither Bill McCollum nor any other Republican office holder who received donations from him, have returned the contributions.
Is Bill Young going to keep the money he received from Odom? (I didn't find any contributions from Sansom on his past forms.)

Sorry Charlie, we're not taking the bait.

Odom will have nothing to do with how or why Bill Young will punk Charlie Justme. Everyone knows that CJ is just working on 2012. So, in the meantime, Kates pays rent thanks to a few saps… and CJ gets to campaign on our dime… thanks to his own legislation that made it possible!

State Senator Justice has done a wonderful job and will be my next Congressman.
Boop can keep posting garbage and Charlie will keep raising money.

Dear Numnuts at 3:58, I don't know where you get the impression I don't know Bill Young is Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He left the Florida Senate and was elected to Congress in 1970. It's hard not to know after 19 terms and given the number of buildings around this county bearing his name. And I agree that he has probably never met Sansom, nor Odom. Frankly, I don't see what one has to do with the other. Sorry, no basement in Florida. No mom anymore either, sorry to say. I'm afraid you just don't make much sense. You'd better go ahead and exhale.

State Senator Justme has done a wonderful job representing his own interests, and will no way in hell be our next Congressman... just like every other Democrap who's tried...

He's not running to win in 2010. He's running for when Bill Young retires. Too bad Mayor Baker will then be our next Congressmen when he decides to run.

Are you kidding 75 grand for a congressional race. That doesn't buy dinner in DC.

So much hate on here. Sounds like there are some GOPers that are scared CW has a real opponent. I for one think 40 years in the same office is a wee bit to long. Talk about the need for change!

I guess CW is not retiring after all. It must mean his son is not ready to run for his seat using his father's name.
Posted by: Retirement? | July 16, 2009 at 09:12 AM
Didn't Latvala raise $230,000 in less time for Justice's seat in the Florida Senate? And with lower contribution limits?
How is $86,000 good? It confirms what people who know Charlie have said all along - he can't raise money. He's reached the Senate on the shoulders of others and he's expecting the DCCC to bail him out again. Sorry, Charlie, the DCCC doesn't need this seat and Young will beat you by 10pts. At least.
Posted by: you're kidding | July 16, 2009 at 10:23 AM
Most of Latvala's money came from lobbyists.
And by the way when is Latvala or Young going to stand up and tell the GOP to return the $1,000,000 that they received from Jay Odom?

Regardless of what letter is next to his name, Bill Young has brought a lot of money and good things to this area. You people need to stop linking a couple screwed up R's to EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN THAT DOES ANYTHING AT ALL!
