Deveron Gibbons on crime

The St. Petersburg candidate for mayor has released his first position paper. You can read it here. Here's the opening paragraph:

As Mayor, it will be my first priority to make sure that every citizen, in every neighborhood of the city, feels safe and secure. We can, and must, do this through strong leadership, streamlined management, and a renewed focus on partnerships which include all major stakeholders -- the city, police and fire departments, community groups, neighborhood associations, and law enforcement agencies.

The paper calls for a police management review, a stepped-up effort against homelessness and a return to community policing.

It's Not a Vote - It's a Movement!

Kidding, right?

Hey Deveron, Does this include drivers with suspended licenses like you?

.True Blue.

If anybody knows about crime, it's this guy.

Tent City Tom

"... a stepped up effort against homelessness..."

That's gonna leave a mark.

Besides, I thought Jamie B. and Ken W. spent a lot of our tax dollars to create a plan to “end” homelessness in Pinellas in just 10-years; that was 5-years ago! I mean, the “end” of something that’s been around since the dawn of human civilization and is a worldwide problem… I was expecting Nobel prizes in 5-years for these two geniuses.

Deveron’s way off here.

Nancy Glippert

At least he has addressed it. There will always be SOME crime...but let's cap it and keep it there.

The current police force do a good job with what they work with. My friends and neighbors want to see officers in our neighborhoods so they understand each areas unique issues and WHO the bad folks are (every area has those "known" criminals). Gibbons is correct. I hope more candidates follow this route.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME

Devron on Crime-ARE YOU KIDDING ME!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME

hahahahahahaha

Angela R..

Me and Devron r gonna git thems criminials. Heck wes donts gots to look to far.

Spiral

Watching Deveron's campaign spiral out of control is nothing short of a joy. I will take a diet coke and a fruit and cheese tray - and enjoy the front row seat watching.

Deveron is a fat cat republican, who works for a predatory lender. He doesn't care about his community or the people. This campaign is about him and his republican cronies.

Deveron: You and spray tan Charlie should find a hotel room!

Imagine being black

Imagine actually being black and reading the comments left at 10:34 last night in the voice of a Step-N-Fetchit character.

Even in that lame attempt to belittle Deveron, the writer's true racist sentiments are clear and evident. Now further imagine being black and realizing that the writer is probably educated (it takes some brains to find and read a blog) and probably white (no black person would write like that).

Now imagine being black and realizing that there are still educated white people out there with deep racist beliefs.

If I were black, and I'm not, that would make me sick to my stomach.

Imagine being honest

Imagine being black and reading a hypocritical post like "(no black person would write like that)"

Imagine being black and realizing that a white person, pretending to care about you, actually thinks you write differently BECAUSE YOU’RE BLACK!

Now imagine being black and realizing that there are still educated white people out there with deep racist beliefs... but pretend not to…

If I were black, or white… and I'm neither, that would make me sick to my stomach.

saintpetersblog

Imagine, you are exactly correct. If you are opposed to Deveron's candidacy, as I obviously am, that doesn't mean you are racist.

Deveron's just a candidate. Win or lose, he'll still make a contribution to this city.

But this latent racism on these boards needs to be monitored and deleted. And shame on people, like Rob Eschenfelder, who try to invoke racial attacks into the criticism of Deveron.

What's wrong with Deveron has nothing to do with him being black or white.

.

Lil’ Pete questioning the integrity of others… now THAT… is a freaking hoot!

... this cat is a major sap...

new to the area

still don't get how Deveron is a predatory lender...makes no sense. Like him or not...at least he is clearly articulating a position. I don't see any other candidate putting out position papers on issues..

Original - NOT

"New to the Area" - if you don't see other candidates positions, you're not looking. Go to their web-sites and you will see that the others already had their platforms spelled out - Deveron didn't have a plan. In fact, his sounds vaguely familiar to another candidate ... just saying!

not so new to the area

It's nice consultant-written banter, but no mention of how the promises within this “position paper” will be funded. Equally important, if not more important, is how the political promises made by these candidates will be funded.

Political rhetoric papers are a dime-a-dozen… substantive ideas and subsequent action… cost more than that.
