Hayden makes state Senate run official
Pinellas County School Board member Nina Hayden has made her bid to succeed state Sen. Charlie Justice official, launching a fledgling Web site and a press release today.
Hayden, a Democrat who is nearly eight months into her term, is so far the only Democrat running in the 2010 race. Former state Sen. Jack Latvala is the only Republican in the race.
Justice, D-St. Petersburg, is running for U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young's seat.

Nina Hayden, always looking for the next move.
How long will she be in the state senate?
One, two, maybe three months?

Is she now triple dipping from taxpayers?
Posted by: John | July 02, 2009 at 04:19 AM
Double-dipping is when you retire from a state job, wait the manditory 30 days, and then go back to that job (or a similar one, also for the state). Then you are drawing retirement pay and a salary for doing the same thing -- and you get a 30 day vacation thrown in.
Hayden has 2 jobs. She gets paid for both. That's not the same thing.
I agree she's moving on this way too soon -- and unfortunately it's going to cost her.

Double dipping is when the taxpayers pay you twice. That is what she is doing. Is she not qualified to go find a real job? She should have quit the public defender job when she was elected to the School Board since she campaigned that she was going to work for our kids full time. I guess she is just another hypocrite politician.

I still can’t believe Hayden was dumb enough to get duped into being Thurman’s cover for the traded seat.
Posted by: K&K | July 02, 2009 at 08:17 AM
I am joining Nina's boss Bob Dillinger and supporting Jack. If her own boss doesn't support her why should I?
Posted by: Her boss isnt supporting her... That says something | July 02, 2009 at 08:25 AM
Her boss is not even supporting her?? That is hillarious!
Posted by: Huh? | July 02, 2009 at 08:48 AM
And with Ray Sansom, Buddy Johnson and Jay Odam backing Latvala, he is a lock.
All you have to do is look at his financially contributions and you see the same lobbyists and developers that backed Sansom and Johnson are helping fund Jack's campaign, he is a lock.
Why change the system that brought you the $6 million dollar airplane hangar, Jack is a lock.

Fed up pinellas parent:
So you are saying that if you have two jobs you should only get paid for one?
That's kind of dumb.
Also, are you saying that if you work for the state, that isn't a "real job?"
Well, that's kind of dumb, too.
Finally, are you saying that anybody who gets elected to the school board should quit their full time jobs?
Well, now, that's just really dumb.
Now -- get back to work. I think Mr. Latvala is calling you.
Posted by: Get it right. | July 02, 2009 at 09:36 AM
It is perfectly fine to have 2 jobs and you should get paid for both. The problem is when the taxpayers have to pay you for both. The school board is a full time job. If you have another full time job, how are able to devote enough time to the school system and more importantly the students you were going to fight for like you said you were. I know your school board campaign was a long time again... what was 7 or 8 months ago?
Posted by: Get it right, I mean Nina | July 02, 2009 at 09:49 AM
It is simple, either Nina is letting down our kids in the school system or see is letting down the juvenille's who she is representing in court. Which is it?

How do you know if Jack has the same contributors as Buddy, Ray, etc. if his report isnt even public yet?
You sir are a tool and an idiot.
Posted by: 9:21 you are an idiot | July 02, 2009 at 09:58 AM
If you look at who has been listed as sponsors of Jack Latvala's fund raisers you can see a number of names in common with those that contributed to Ray Sansom and Buddy Johnson.
Jack Latvala wants to continue the "give the GOP a $1 million and we will give you a $6 million airplane hangar" politics.
Jack has his minons attacking Nina. The million plus that Jay Odom gave the GOP pays for a lot of blogging!
Posted by: 9:58 doesn't know Jack's Sponsors | July 02, 2009 at 10:28 AM
Charlie Justice needs to stay put. He was sweet talked by Debbie Wasserman Schultz into running against Young. What Debbie doesn't realize is that no matter how that district voted for President, they are not going to vote Bill Young out! Period. Yes, when Young retires, this seat becomes a great pick-up opportunity for the Democrats, but not until then. Plus, we are going to lose Justice's Senate seat to Latvala. Nina will be a good candidate, but she will be no match for Jack Latvala. What a shame.

Just because Jack Latvala believes that the taxpayers should cough up $6 million for a GOP donor doesn't make him corrupt.
It just makes him a loyal Republican who is more concerned with his contributors than he is with our money.
Go Jack.

Hey Dumb A S S,
Jack wasnt in the legislature that paid for the hangar from Sansom nor did he serve with one in the legislature with him. If that is the best ya'll can do he is going to wipe the floor with this woman.
Posted by: What? | July 02, 2009 at 11:35 AM
Lets have a quick history of Nina's short lived campaign. As soon as news broke a few weeks ago she was running, several local democrats ripped into her for not being ready and being an opportunist, a few more democrats showed up at Latvala's kickoff, and her own boss endorsed Jack.
Exactly how is she going to win again?
Posted by: Naive Nina | July 02, 2009 at 11:40 AM
Jack Latvala has made it clear that he believes that the Republican Party should keep the $1 millions that Jay Odom gave to the GOP.
Jack Latvala and Ray Sansom joined at the hip!

While I know that Jay Odom gave a truck load of money to the Republicans (or should I say hangar full) and that Bill McCollum also received money from Jay Odom, I don't think that the GOP will spend any of that on the Latvala race.
I think the Republican Party is spending it all on bloggers.

Jack served zero days in the Legislature with Ray Sansom.
Posted by: Correction | July 02, 2009 at 12:01 PM
I can see the ad now . . . Jack's face with a big airplane hangar in the background.
$1 million in donation to the Republicans is a bargin for a $6 million airplane hangar.

That ad will be right after the ad calling Nina a double dipper and right before the ad where Nina's boss tells voters to join him in voting for jack.
Posted by: Which ad? | July 02, 2009 at 12:08 PM
Oh and then you will get tired of that ad so you will flip the channel and then see the add of prominent democrats talking about why you should cross the party line with them and vote for Jack
Posted by: Which ad? | July 02, 2009 at 12:09 PM
Kids,
Ya'll are doing a wonderful job today. You as well as I know that we are outmatched in this race but keep talking about Sansom and the Airplane Hangar. If we divert attention away from our girl being unqualified and unready to be a Senator the better chance we have. Don't worry, hopefully she wont be in the race for long. I tried to talk her out of running. Rest assured, I am working on finding a real candidate to run against this Latvala guy.
Democrat Chairman

What happened to the $1 million that Jay Odom gave the Republican Party and why does Jack Latvala think they should keep it.
Latvala Ads paid for by Ray Sansom and the Republican Party.
Your attacks against Nina will work as well as your attacks did against Sen. Justice!
