Scott Wagman picks up Suncoast Sierra Club endorsement

ST. PETERSBURG-- Mayoral hopeful Scott Wagman has been endorsed by the Suncoast Sierra Club.

The announcement is somewhat of a blow to fellow Democrat and mayoral hopeful Jamie Bennett, who has tried to paint himself as the greenest candidate in a field of 10.

Terrie Weeks, chair of Suncoast Group released the following statement, "Suncoast Sierra Club is delighted to support the campaign of Scott Wagman for Mayor in St. Pete's primary elections.  When elected we are confident he will act wisely and decisively in the best environmental interests of St. Petersburg and it's citizens."

City Council Member Karl Nurse is also endorsed.

True Blue

Wow!!! Now somebody should check how many candidates endorsed by this bunch have ever won an election.

Bill

An endorsement from a bunch of tree huggers - impressive. If I was Foster I would use that as an ad campaign. This endorsement will turn many people off.

Zen Master

Scott's position on recycling is the best of all the candidates. I'm not a Sierra member but I'm glad to hear they agree with me.

Bill

It is great to have a great plan - but with a $26M budget shortfall it is not going to happen

Alex Haak

Did they know about Scott's paying fines for his dumping of waist on his so called scott paint factories property and the contamination of the same property ?????????????????????

ddss

Nice job, Sierra. You just endorsed the third biggest polluter in Sarasota County and the only candidate in the whole field to pay pollution fines.

What a joke.

Yeaaaa

The entertaining Alex is back

If you have enough money Alex you can pay to have people "forget"

iS cHARLIE STILL MARRIED NOW THAT THE MOVIE OUTRAGE IS OUT?

The Sierra Club is a joke. When you contact them on a real issue, they run the other way, with their legs between their legs.

Osprey Ollie

The Suncoast Sierra Club is a mere shadow of its former self. They’ve been political tools ever since Rice was planted as a political favor. Hell, now they even pimp the developers praises at local council and board meetings… Everyone has their price ya know. Nurse got the endorsement because of Rice. He helped write the candidate questionnaire for Heaven’s sake.

Face it Sierra Club; you’ve politicized yourselves right into obscurity, and your integrity is shot to hell.

Zen Master

Um Ollie. Any environmental group would give Nurse their endorsement if he asked. He actually "gets it".

He could have anyone managing his campaign and get that endorsement. Has Vel or Derrick ever stepped up on the recycling issue? No. Karl has.

Osprey Ollie

I now know who Zen is. And btw way tool, the Sierra Club is no longer an "environmental group"... they're a group of politicaly-stacked lackeys of the developers.

Nurse hasn't done a damn thing for recycling but plagiarize ideas and pimp them as his own.

Sell your swamp land to someone else, sap... Nurse got it because he wrote the damn questionaire and kissed a lot of a s s... he's good at that at least...

Good 'ol Boy

Zen is Nurse.

and I liked Karl better when he was an activist before he got on council and started drinking the administration's kool-aid!

Karl(Zen)and his buddy WAGman are limosine liberals who feel superior and need to protect the rest of us from our inferior selves.

We should all be thankful to them.

Great Job Nurse ! Wagman ! Kornell !

The haters on this blog may have an issue with a group of people who care about the future of this planet, but your endorsement was sought by all of the candidates, and despite the lies spewed by the likes of Alex Haak ( who always thinks he knows everything but hasn't realized that he has grown old and senile ) You, the Sierra Club, has chosen very well. Kudos to those candidates who have earned your endoresement

Richard Eldridge

To Great Job Nurse! Wagman! Kornell! 10:09 PM

I never sought the endorsement of the Sierra Club. I filled out their 2009 Primary Questionnaire as a courtesy and posted it on my website.

http://www.eldridge2009.com/surveys.htm#Sierra_Club

If you read it, you can see that some of the answers that I give are not the kind of things that a person would say when seeking the approval of that organization or any like it.

I also love the environment, and there are plenty of issues on which we agree, but human beings are also part of the environment, and I consider human welfare to be paramount.

Richard Eldridge
Candidate for Mayor

Chris

Alex, you and ddss are misinformed. Scott paid to have someone else's (Raytheon) pollution cleaned up.
If there was a choice between the Sierra Club and TRUE BLUE, any sane person of dignity who knew them both would go with the Club.
Osprey, you are in la la land. Most active Sierras would chase the developers out of the state. Good ole Boy, I'm glad you speak for your inferior self.
Eldridge, why bother with endorsements at all?
The Sierra Club picked the best candidates.

Osprey Ollie

The Sierra Club has become a fraud. And sorry, Chris... I've seen them often pimp the praises of the developers at council and board meetings.

And Karl got the nod because he helped them write the questionaire.

Spin it anyway you want, but Nurse is a tool, and so is the Sierra Club.

donkey kick

Just to set the record straight about the paint pollution thing: Wagman inherited the old Scott Paint site, later sold it to the county. When traces of paint chemicals were discovered he immediately fixed it... laid $400K out of pocket. It took some 3 years to fully clean but yielded only 500kg of nasty... about two 50 gallon drums... the result of drips while hand mixing paints back in the 50's & 60's.

Now here's a kicker for you-- In 1992, Two years before that was discovered Wagman initiated a drop-off paint recycling program with the county that is still working and now in 7 Florida counties.

Sierra Club made a great choice- Wagman's a winner.

 not buying the bs

Rigged and we all know it. Sierra club-reputation shot.

saintpetersblog

This is a win for Wagman, but who else would they endorse? Bennett isn't viable, so that left Wagman. Let's argue about something else.

Zen Master

Once again folks I am not Nurse. Yes I support him and yes I've defended him here many times. I've never been in a limo in my life. I even drove my own car to my prom. Sorry to disapoint you good ol boy.

.

Zen is Bill

Zen Master

No I am not Bill.. Bill who though? out of curiosity.

.

If you don’t know who Bill is, how should I know… then again, how do you know you’re not Bill. I paid a bill once, even get a power bill each month… but if I tell you who Bill is, then I will have provided you a service, and thus… will have to send you a bill. Know what I mean, Bill?

Osprey Ollie needs to fly away

Hey, Osprey.

Why don't you stop shooting the good cops and get something accomplished yourself- or have you completely lost your credibility to even be a good gadfly anymore?
