Steve Kornell's TV ad
ST. PETERSBURG -- District 5 candidate Steve Kornell raised $26,000 from April through June, more than most mayoral candidates.
Kornell, a social worker, faces Pinellas County Housing Authority board member Angela Rouson and retired police officer Joe Smith in the September primary.
Here is what some of Kornell's money is going toward:
And the mailer that went out today (absentee ballots will be sent out Wednesday):

Better than the Wagman cr*p.

Excellent job! You're looking good, Steve.

first time I have seen the establishment democrats and the grassroots lefties behind the same candidate in a race

Kornell is a liar and can't be trusted.

Steve, I saw this on tv last night and was impressed. Great work.

First city council candidate with TV ads, that's pretty awesome! Kudos Steve!

@Anyone but Kornell- What in the world are you talking about? What kind of person makes a statement likes that, and doesn't back up what they stay with facts! Maybe you are the liar.

Smart is pushing it - hard worker - maybe - does Lipinski follow him to the city council? I hope so

Lipinski is the one who should have ran

Kornell will be a great improvement over the idiot in there now.

True Blue - you have a point - still kornell is not the brightest bulb on the christmas tree. He is the best one running - so he has the advantage there. Kornell knocked on my door last week and he had no idea what I was talking about when I asked him questions. He just gave me a blank stare, muttered and said more jobs, youth activities and reducing crime. I asked him how he plans on doing this - another blank stare, stuttering and more of the stock answers from the typical politician. I am going to vote for him - but hopefully Nurse gets elected so Kornell has someone to mentor him. Kornell is running a good campaign - he has a good staff. Great staff can obviously make an acceptable candidate when none other is available

Everyone knows that Kornell is not the brightest - that is why the DEC recruited Angela to run - it backfired on them. Angela is a HORRIBLE candidate. Steve is one lucky man - and he has got the best staff alive

All three candidates spoke at my Broadwater neighborhood meeting last month and I think Kornell was the only one who walked out with votes. Smith had enthusiasm without substance, Rouson spoke about a ten hour meeting she just had at the housing authority, and Kornell shared how his work experience with youth prepared him to tackle our association's problems with young people from the area causing mischief. I was one of those who walked into the meeting knowing little about the candidates and walked out a supporter.

You can tell who the Stonewall members posting here

bb,
Name ten DEC members supporting Rouson. You have in excess of 200 to choose from. You can't do it.

There are a lot of new, young voters who came on board for Obama and will be voting by mail.
Very many of them have known Steve for most of their lives, and are totally colorblind in their support for him.
He should walk away from this, regardless of how massive the Rousan mailers are bound to be.

Im sorry if this enflames this discussion, but isn't Kornell's campaign just the 2009 version of Chris Eaton's failed bids for office.
I say this, regretfully, as the campaign manager of one of the candidates that beat Eaton. Eaton is, maybe, the most compassionate figure we had run for office.
But...
Kornell's campaign reminds me a lot of Eaton's. The over-eager campaign manager, the zealotry of the gay community, the us-against-the-world mentality.
I think Kornell's a good candidate, but do we have to turn a city council race into a referendum on gay rights?

"... but do we have to turn a city council race into a referendum on gay rights?"
I can’t believe I’m about to post this, but… I actually agree with Schorsch on this. If Kornell looses this, it will be because of the radical gay mafia that prances around St. Pete as if they matter.
The truly sad part is that Rouson might win because of that, and she’s not worthy. The Rousons are about the Rousons and no one else.
This is what happens when you allow the gay mafia to highjack your Party and its agenda. On course the PCSEC (Pinellas County Stonewall Executive Committee) is backing a gay candidate. That’s the new focus for Pinellas Dems… which ever ones are left that is.
And btw, 12:20… you dipsticks haven’t had more than 40-60 people show up at PCSEC meetings since the Stonewalls highjack’d it… get a grip.

This is a bomb waiting to go off. Kornell - nice guy, no doubt - has no one around him with common sense. Just queens with personal agendas and Lapinski with an ego.
You'll need a better captain of the ship when Angela starts rocking the boat.

As a volunteer for the Eaton Campaign, not in 2001 but 2002, and as a gay man, I don't really recollect other gay volunteers. So I'm not sure what you mean by gay zealotry?

Steve and Joe are both fine individuals. Steve has a great ground game. Joe is coming along. Angela, right now is the invisible candidate and must be assuming Darryl alone will get her thru the primary. Weak assumption. It may very well be Joe and Steve in November. Two good candidates.

This election has nothing to do with gay rights. Peter wishes it was because he's supporting Rouson. That is her only hope.
Posted by: you wish | July 15, 2009 at 11:42 AM
Peter - you were not the campaign manager for anyone who beat Eaton. Get over yourself.

"beat Eaton"
No thanks, I gave at the office!
.... taaadump-tissssh... thank you everyone, I'll be here 'til Thursday, try the veal and don't forget to tip your waitress...
