Brian Blair has a plan for the homeless

TP_308602_WALL_blair_1 While his former colleagues on the Hillsborough County Commission have struck out twice with plans to help the homeless, Brian Blair, (left) now a candidate for the District 47 state House seat, offers this plan: Put them in a vacant hotel.

“It makes sense, across the board,” Blair said in a news release. “Hotels are already equipped for sheltering people. And it would, at the same time, help the homeless and create jobs.” Blair says the plan would entail selecting a vacant hotel, renovating it and moving in homeless people after background checks. “It’s not that county residents don’t feel that the homeless should have a place to stay, but the question is always, ‘Where?' Hotels are generally away from neighborhoods and shopping centers," Blair said.

So far, Blair's opponents in the 2010 Republican primary for the post are Irene Guy, Tom Aderhold and Richard Reidy. According to the latest fundraising reports, Reidy has the most money in his campaign coffers. After two quarters, he reported bringing in $21,804. Guy, though, raised $21,026 in the first quarter after she announced her candidacy. Blair brought in $8,710.

Meg

Now just name a willing hotel Brian. Julie Brown is all about supporting developers and their interests. She'll be really bad news. She couldn't even win the neighborhood where she lives -South Tampa against Dingfelder - what makes her think she can win the whole city? Forget it Julie.

Kim

She lost by 1,000 votes against an incumbent whose mug is in the newspaper every day. Who in the world is a developer these days??? You are crazy Meg. Julie Brown will win and you will eat your words.

Kim

And btw-you are on the wrong blog again, Meg.

Bumbling Brian Blair

I have an idea: let's not address the root issues that cause homelessness and instead just put the people in a privately ran hotel owned by one of my developer friends and lock them up. We could put barcodes and GPS chips in their necks so we know where they are at all times. And because the government, which is completely broken, will pay my developer friend for housing the homeless we will not attack the root cause issues so he can continue to collect the government's money. After all, these homeless "losers" really don't want to be productive citizens. Oh, and we will call this capitalism.

That's my new "I am a Christian" and "I care about people" feel good issue.

Sincerely,
Bumbling Brian Blair

No thanks Brian

Blair is an idiot. Maybe he should just go beat up the homeless like his kids and wife.

Julie

What does Julie Brown have to do with any of this?

Besides, she smart, and she's hot! So leave her alone.

Was the Bumbling Bee

Tell us, Bay Buzz, was the Bumbling Bee shaking during this interview?

Peter the crook

Blair, like me is an idiot, but even idiots sometimes have a good idea.

What do the other candidates say about the homeless dilema? With all the negative remarks, no one mentioned he is the only one talking about an increasing disgrace in this county. Is there an anti homeless culture in Hillsbourgh County government?
