It won't be like a NYC Critical Mass?

Does that mean it will be a Positive Mass?

Kimberly

On Labor Day (Sept. 1, 2008), we'll have our Annual FREE Labor Day Bicycle Ride.

Meet at North Shore Pool, 9th Ave NE & North Shore Drive NE in St. Petersburg.

The Gib's Ride Group will be there, as will other faster groups. If a sweep doesn't show up, the Gib's Ride Group will bicycle to the "slowest common denominator".

Helmets are required for all riders. Also, bring a water bottle and spare inner tube. Bring the bicycle of your choice: bicycle, handcycle, tandem, recumbent, etc. No motors please.

Minors must bring an adult to supervise them and written permission from their parents/guardians. If you're concerned your child won't obey the road laws and safety techniques, put the child on a tandem extension behind you.

We take off riding sharp at 8:30 AM. Most rides end about 10:00 AM. Then, those of us who so desire go to a downtown restaurant for a late breakfast.

Oops.

The Annual FREE Labor Day Bicycle Ride will be free. If you go to the restaurant with us, you'll need to pay for your own breakfast and tip.

The Critical Mass ride in Tampa is worth checking out -- and the inaugural event was fun, hassle-free and full of great cameraderie. I wrote a review of it:

Isn't anybody going to talk about the poor guy who was killed yesterday a block from his home while riding his mountain bike? He was hit and killed by a GARBAGE truck on 2nd St. N and 93rd Ave.

Personally, I hope the driver gets indefinately suspended from driving. Give her a desk job or something, but hell, get her off the streets. I don't want to run across her while cycling around in St. Pete!!

She (the garbage truck driver)turned in front of the cyclist, broadsided him and then ran him over with the rear tires of the truck!!! Someone like that clearly does not belong behind the wheel of a large truck!

It's strange because just a couple days before this, a garbage truck pulled out in front of the group on 3rd Street south! They also drive very very close when they are passing you! Whats up with them? Is this just legalized homicide, just because they are city workers?

I'm pretty sure it will continue on the same schedule for the foreseeable future. I'll post if I hear anything otherwise.
