Lance! Lance! Lance! Lance!

Go Lance, go!

This is purely a media campaign by the "powers above" in international cycling to bring the sport back into a positive light. Let's face it...how many people can tell you who won the Tour this year?

Who gives a schlit -if it helps professional cycling or if he really is making comeback, both are good things for all cyclists everywhere. It's all over the friggin news! I say hip hooray! It can only be a good thing for local cycling.
Joe are you a brain surgeon? If not, gosh, you should have been! It's never too late to go back to school dude.

Yes, Lance was so spectacular that he made a lot of people inside and outside bicycling take notice. Any positive publicity is good publicity. That's how you sell the product.
But what will really get bicycles flying out of the shops and onto the roads is for the gas to go up to $4.00 a gallon. If sufficient hurricanes went through the Gulf's oil platforms,....

If you want the motorists to see you, bicycle where the motorists are looking.
Yes, it really works. I use that rule every time I go out on the roads, whether it's side streets or main roads.
And now that the sun is rising later in the morning, slap on a bunch of flashing bike lights, front and back. I've had motorists complement me on my lights.

Lance is a mixed blessing for cycling. Yes, he gets tons of press coverage, and that's good, but I suspect too many everyday people look at him and think, "Geez, I could never do that", thinking that bicycling requires tremendous athletic ability and effort just to ride around the block. I'm working real hard to counter that perspective, but it's tough.
Still, I'm glad he's back.

Lets face it, this is the only way Astana will get in the tour next year!

Let's keep it on topic, thanks.

Adam,
Tell that to those on here throwing around insults and belittling others!
I asked one of your posters to prove her point and was childishly attacked.

Not sure how this will work for Astana. Might just be Hinault and Lemond all over again. They have a strong team without Lance. Who will be leader ?

As far as Lance is concerned, I maintain that the guy did alot of positive things for cycling in general, not only because he won the Tour 7 times in a row, but in doing so, he brought a new enthusiasm to American cycling. Something that had been lacking in American cycling since the days of Greg LeMond.
I think it's awesome that he's even considering racing again, whether or not it's some media campaign or not.

Adam,
You're trying to keep us on topic?
Didn't you know trying to get cyclists to do something is like herding bicycling squirrels?

Wondering if Lance will increase the number of bicyclists?
How about icky Ike doing it? Check out the news links on www.myfoxtampabay.com:

When wholesale was $3 per gallon, retail was about $3.55. Due to Ike, wholesale was $4.75 a gallon on Thursday. $5.25 a gallon retail anyone?
At least my bicycle isn't taking it from other people.

I love how they always use the most extremist of terms when describing what a police officer does...the cyclist "darted" right out in front of the officer. Couldn't possibly have been that the officer was talking on his cell phone, looking down at his GPS or picking up a french fry that he just dropped on the floor of his patrol car! oh no way! It's always the other guy who's done something out of the ordinary....
priceless!!

Speaking of squirrels on bicycles....
Wow!!!

The Paralympics is going on in Beijing.
A lot of the St. Petersburg cyclists know Barb Buchan (Bend, Oregon). She broke the world record and won a gold medal for her disability class.

Joe,
Please keep posting your thoughts.
There are jocks on here who like to talk smack. For them, it's like playing a verbal game of King of the Hill.
Then there are non-jocks on this blog who don't like talking smack because it gives them bad memories of being forced to play team sports, but being made fun of because they didn't have any sports skills.
If you don't like talking smack and someone starts talking smack to you, just don't respond with smack. If you respond with smack, it just gets more "smacky".
Also, printed words don't always convey the information we want because the body language isn't there. So, you might find someone gets insulted by or misunderstands what you say. At that point, just explain your comments so the other person understands what you meant.
I really do hope you keep posting because your input is important.
