My new friend Katherine, whom I met at the Tampa Bay Bike Co-op meeting last night, is organizing a memorial ride for her close friend Frankie who we all know was struck and killed by a car a few weeks ago.
Ride for Awareness!!
- Friday, December 5 at 3:30pm (leave around 4)
- Meet at the Marshall Center Loop at USF Tampa
- Group ride surrounding campus for bike awareness.
I know it's early in the day, but it's best held under daylight, for obvious reasons. Hope you can make it.

I'm missing the awareness connection. Mr. Bentley was killed on Gandy Blvd., NW St.Petersburg, a major thoroughfare rather lacking in cycling awareness despite the Old Gandy Bridge park. It is separated from Marshall Center Loop, USF, by thirty plus miles and a psychic universe.

You can also participate in the Share the Road Ride which I believe now occurs in October sometime if you want to participate in a "bikes belong" awareness ride and which takes place in St. Petersburg. I do not know where the Marshall Center Loop, USF is. I would not criticize or critique them for having their memorial ride wherever it is they want to have it. I respect their choice to have it there. Unfortunately, it's too early in the day on a work day for me to be able to make it there, so I am afraid I will not be able to make it. It might be a good idea to get in touch with the local bicycle clubs to make them aware of this ride so that they can tell their members. You may get a little bit better of a turn out that way.
I still say that the area bike clubs need to unite even for one day and get their members together to meet somewhere and do a mass ride together. Call it whatever you want to call it - an awareness ride, a memorial ride or whatever.
