Airport wants slot machines

Miami International Airport wants to install slot machines, according to the Miami Herald.

Airport officials pushed Miami-Dade commissioners to seek a permit to apply for a slot machine license, saying quick action is required because the laws governing gambling in Florida are set to change.

The county’s proposal calls for slot machines beyond the airport’s security checkpoints, which supporters hope would lure travelers to gamble while waiting for flights. Under the permit, the county would also have to strike an agreement to run quarter horse races off site.
