Topless woman: God told me to direct traffic

Then there's topless woman in DeLand who was standing in an intersection directing traffic, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Apparently she wasn't too successful since her state of undress was causing a bit of a traffic tie-up. She told police God told her to direct traffic.

Police blame parents in murder-suicide

DeLand police say they wanted to charge a teenager with stalking an ex-girlfriend, but her parents objected, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports. Now the teens are dead and the parents are criticizing police for the way they handled the case. Daniel Clayton Kufner, 19, shot himself to death after after shooting his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend Natasha Hall to death on her porch. "This type of consensual and mutual interaction was known by the parents, and it greatly hindered an argument for a stalking charge,'' DeLand Police Chief Ed Overman said. The parents said they just wanted to get Kufner out of town.

Killer berates murder victim, family

George Parker did not go quietly when a jury found him guilty of murdering his ex-girlfriend's new live-in boyfriend, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports. "It is not OK to kill people," Parker said in a DeLand courtroom on Friday, "but it is not good to (expletive) rape people and the (expletive) family knows that.'' He said he hopes Givens "rots in hell."  44, contends he killed Kenneth Givens, 50 - he stabbed him 15 times and stomped him in the face for good measure - because Givens raped Jane Owens. But Owens was living with Givens at the time and testified there was no rape. "This is about the defendant wanting Jane Owens and the only way he could have her was to kill Kenneth Givens," a prosecutor said.

He faces the music for murder after music complaint

The music was too loud and a neighbor complained. When DeLand police officers went the apartment where the music was playing, they questioned the people there, WKMG-TV reports. One of them was a 23-year-old man wanted on a second-degree murder charge. Authorities arrested him and took him to jail.
