Deputies Tase a 'crazy' emu

Bay County Sheriff's deputies were forced to use a Taser to subdue an escaped emu named Plop-Plop.

According to newsherald.com, The large female bird escaped from a farm last weekend and on Monday, she holed up with some horses and goats in a pen. When deputies arrived, the emu "went kind of crazy," said Sheriff's deputy Randolph Grob.

The deputies didn't want the bird to hurt itself or them, so the used the Taser stun gun to immobilize Plop-Plop.

The emu was brought to the Bay County Animal Control Center, where she has made a full recovery. The bird's owner is expected to take her home soon.

Purse thief obviously isn't an iPhone fan

A thief at a beachside Fort Walton Beach restaurant stole a diner's Louis Vuitton purse, which had been left on the table, but tossed out an iPhone and digital camera that were inside, the Northwest Florida Daily News reports. When the woman and her husband came back to the table, the purse was gone, but the electronics were found on a deck. The thief, perhaps a technophobe, was nowhere to be found.

Argument scatters dad's ashes in the wind

A parking dispute resulted in a woman's father's ashes being tossed on the ground, according to the NWFDailynews.com. The Fort Walton Beach woman told deputies her neighbor was upset about where she had parked and knocked a box with her father's ashes from her hands. A bag containing the ashes ripped and some of the contents spilled out. After telling him what the bag contained, she said, the man grabbed the bag and tried to spill the remainder of the ashes.

Getting a handle on things

MARY ESTHER - A Panhandle woman who deputies say wouldn't let go of her husband is facing a felony charge of domestic battery, the Northwest Florida Daily News reports. When deputies were called to the couple's house for the second time that night, at 4 a.m., they learned that Sadine Harris, 53, had gone "busting into the bedroom and grabbing (her husband's) crotch and refusing to let go," a deputy wrote in a report. The husband "had to pry Sadine's fingers off of his genitals and force her off of him." She said she didn't do anything and that her husband was drunk.

Woman wanted out of argument, so she jumped out of moving car

In the heat of an argument Tuesday, Marquita Cherrell Armstrong wanted to get out of the car on I-10 near Tallahassee. But driver Jefffery Dawayne Watson wouldn't pull over, state troopers said in an Associated Press report. Armstrong got of the car anyway. She was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Dead body in the yard? Whatever. Time for a nap

William Hutson saw the body of a friend of his lying outside his Gulf Breeze home, but thought it was an Aprils Fool's Day prank, the Pensacola News-Journal reports. So he picked up his shotgun, went inside and took took a nap on the couch. But Charles Scott Boylan, 47, really was dead of a gunshot wound to the chest. It's not clear how Boylan died. Hutson was arrested on a tampering with evidence charge for picking up his shotgun.

And they wonder why he didn't show up

Last year a Panama City man violated probation and his probation officer came out to take him to jail. The man's wife objected, got into a scuffle and ended up being shot dead by the probation officer. The man went prison for violating probation. In January, the man was released from prison, the Northwest Florida Daily News reports. He was assigned to a probation officer -- the same one who killed his wife. The man now is in Bay County Jail. Why? He didn't report in to his probation officer.

He didn't spit, he "gleeked"

A woman who accused her boyfriend of sleeping with another woman complained to Okaloosa County sheriff's deputies that he responded by spitting oner her. The man's defense: he didn't spit at her he "gleeked''  on her, the Northwest Florida Daily News reports. Deputies left without making an arrest. They did not report if they looked up the Wikipedia definition of gleeking.

Today's lesson: Don't play with bombs

It wasn't until Chris Mathis' SUV hit a bump that he realized holding a grenade out the window probably wasn't the "brightest thing to do.'' His 8-year-old son dug up the WWII-era grenade during a treasure hunt in a grassy field  in the Panhandle town of Pace, reports Local6.com. Mathis took the grenade to an Air Force explosives unit from Hurlburt Field, which destroyed it Friday morning. Mathis hopes his son learned a lesson. "We told him he could find jewelry and things like that, but he couldn’t play with bombs,'' he said.

A joyride in a fire truck

A volunteer firefighter from Gretna was arrested after stealing a fire truck, the Tallahassee Democrat reports. He was charged with grand theft and having an invalid license. Oh, and DUI.
