"Cheerleading commissioner" accused of sexual relationship with minor

A 38-year old "cheerleading commissioner" for the Navarre Youth Sports Association was arrested and taken to the Santa Rosa County Jail Monday, charged with lewd or lascivious battery.  According to nwfdailynews.com, a complaint to the Florida Department of Children and Families resulted in a police investigation which disclosed that Sheila Broome Langman had engaged in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy.  Police said the pair had been "sexually involved" a number of times between July and September.  (Image:  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)

It took a rake, a shovel and a gun, but this snake's dead

When a Navarre woman found a 5-foot diamondback rattlesnake on her front porch, she knew who to call, reports the Northwest Florida Daily News.

Jeffrey Lassiter, her lawn care man, came to the rescue. Lassiter says he held down the snake with a rake while a neighbor shot it with a gun.

"He shot it twice in the head. It was still trying to strike. So we left the rake on his head, took a shovel and chopped its head off," Lassiter said, according to the report.

Lynn Bouressa, the homeowner, said she'd seen snakes in her yard before, but never one this big.

They said they intended to bury the dead snake, but first they took some photos.

Yet another reason to watch your weight

The Santa Rosa County Jail is minus two inmates because a "design flaw" in the building allowed them to squeeze through a 12-inch-by-12-inch opening onto the roof, resulting in their escape to freedom Saturday night.  According to NWFDailyNews.com, Ricky Dale Spears, 43, and David Chapell Dixon, 20, are still on the loose and should be considered "dangerous."  Spears was incarcerated for kidnapping a minor and aggravated battery, and Dixon was in jail for armed robbery and assault.  The county jail has been open for 10 years, but the "design flaw" had gone unnoticed until this escape.  A Santa Rosa County Sheriff's spokesman said he didn't know why other inmates did not follow Spears and Dixon out through the opening, but that "(t)he size of the person had some play into it."  He said officials were inspecting the jail to make sure no more "design flaws" have been overlooked.

She cried abduction, but it was a lie

A Santa Rosa County woman reported her 5-month-old daughter had been kidnapped from the backseat of her vehicle, but later admitted it was a ruse to get the attention of the girl's father, the Pensacola News-Journal reports. Kimberly Hart, 18, now faces neglect charges for leaving her daughter at a vacant house belonging to a relative.
