Rays shift of Matt Silverman back to team president, Erik Neander to top of baseball operations is official

RECOMMENDED READING

The Rays have made official the changes at the top of their organization, with Matt Silverman going back to join Brian Auld as presidents of the Rays, and Erik Neander assuming the top spot in baseball operations.
"Brian and Matt have been at the helm of our organization for more than a decade," principal owner Stuart Sternberg said. "I have the utmost confidence in their leadership and, more importantly, their ability to work in tandem for the betterment of the Rays."

Silverman had been team president before shifting to president of baseball operations in October 2014 following the departure of senior vice president Andrew Friedman to the Dodgers. He was expected to eventually transition back to the business/administrative side, and last year started doing less of the day to day work to focus on bigger picture issues.

With that having happened after the season, Neander, who already had the title of general manager and senior VP, becomes the top official in baseball operations, working closely with Chaim Bloom, who also has a senior VP title.

"These organizational changes are spurred on by my confidence and trust in Erik Neander," Sternberg said. "He has been a leader in baseball operations for years. I'm excited for the energy, leadership and continued innovation that he, certainly Chaim , and the entire baseball operations department provide our organization."

Auld and Silverman will both serve as presidents – not co-presidents – and share duties and responsibilities in providing oversight to the entire organization on internal and external matters.
