House of Tailors is about 13-year-old Dina from a small town in Germany. When her older sister Katherina gets invited to come live in America with their uncle Dina is shocked and sad. Dina and Katherina have both always dreamed of going to America. Dina doesn't understand why she wasn't invited too. I really enjoyed this book.

I love this book! I read it twice before it was even a SSYR book. Dina has to go to America instead of Katharina because she woke up early in the morning, put on her father's old trousers and went for a walk. When she was walking outside she bumped into a soldier, who thought she was a French spy! So about 4 other soldiers go after her. So THAT"S why she goes to America. (Whew!)

We loved the book House of Tailors because it was unique and tragic at the same time. It started off with Dina hating sewing but she was the best of the family. When she was caught by the German soldiers she was accused of being a spy. She was in hiding in America. She thought she would never sew again. The ending was very surprising.....

At first I thought that this book was really boring and stopped reading it. Then I picked it up a few weeks later and guess what? I loved it. This small book has so much packed in it. I started having to right notes to remember those little tips. I'm still reading and like I said before I love it! Now for a quick summary. Dina Kirk hates sewing. When her uncle offers for Kathrina Her older sister to come live with him and his wife Barbara, Dina is devestated. When she sneaks out early in the morning to exchange patterns with her friend Elise who lives over the Rhine river soldiers think she is a french spy. there is no other choice except for dina to go to America instead. when Dina arrives the uncle is very upset that Dina comes instead of Kathrina. Dina thinks she'll never have to sew agian, but she's wrong her uncles house is a house of tailors. Then the apartment burns down and baby Ernest is born. When Dina's sister and her husband decide to come to America Dina is happier than ever but April seems soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo far away. Like I said before this small book is packed with words. Enjoy A house of Tailors!!!!!!!!!!
