Rules by Cynthia Lord (Grades 6-8)
Catherine's brother, David, is autistic. Catherine loves her brother, but she is also embarrassed by his behavior. Catherine creates rules to help David understand what is right and wrong with his behavior. Then accompanying David, to his therapy sessions, Catherine meets and befriends Jason, a nonverbal paraplegic who tries to overcome his disabilities by using a book of pictures to communicate. Overcoming disabilities requires a special kind of courage. Overcoming people's attitudes or prejudice requires even more. Look through the pages of the St. Petersburg Times to find an example of courage. Read the article and highlight the sentences that show the courage of the person. Share the sentence you have underlined and your reasons for selecting this article by clicking on the blog link.

I am not getting in to the book that much but i am positive it will get a lot better as i go along reading it.Im at chapter 5 so far i kinda think her little brother is funny when he's at the game store. I think it would be hard to have a little brother with atisum and to teach him all those rules and keep teaching him when he messes up.

I enjoyed Rules. When my class had a project when you made a cereal box commercial based on any book you want that was your reading level, I realized Rules wasn't taken, and I did my report on it! I called my cereal box EXPRESSOS. I called it that because the lesson of the book to me was you have the right to express yourself. Rules helped me understand autism when I had never heard of it before.

Rules is a superb book because it shows the hardships of being autistic or having a sibling that is.

This book was great. The book was the best because the rules were ok.

I am not in 6th grade but Rules was 1 of our battle books in 4th grade. My favorite character was Catheriene. I don't really like it that much but it was ok. When i took an A.R. test on it i got a 100%. I think because i was paying attention to the book. My friends and i really felt bad for Jason. It would be hard to be in a wheelchair and cant talk. When i was reading the book and it talked about Jason i started to cry. My favorite part was when David was on the front porch with Catheriene then David started to yell something about buttons when the new neighbors were walking. The girl was named Kristy. I hope you enjoy reading the book Rules. But if you aren't reading the book go ahead pick up the book and start reading it. Don't take my opinion if you like if or you don't. Also i finished the book Rules in one day! I read day and night. So go out there and buy yourself the book Rules or check it out in the library at school or your public library. Bye!!!

LOVE this book! One of the best books I've ever read, by far truly fantastic. And it really makes you think in a way, if you know what I mean. Would most definetly recommend it.
