Bomb squad responds to Tampa Blockbuster
TAMPA -- The search is on for a man who police said tried to hold up a video store by threatening to blow it up with a fake detonator.
Police said the man entered the Blockbuster Video store at 8416 N. Armenia Ave. just before midnight and placed on the counter a "white package with wires taped to it." Police said he threatened to detonate the device if employees didn't open the safe.
Store clerks told the would-be robber it would take 20 minutes to open the safe, which had been set for a time delay. He ran off empty-handed.
The Tampa Police Bomb Squad was called into detonate the device, later determined to be fake.
Police are searching for the man, described as a white, 6 feet tall and weighing between 180 to 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a scarf or bandanna around his face.
