Deputies break up fight at Dunedin High with pepper spray

As many as 18 adults and 29 juveniles have been treated for exposure to pepper spray outside Dunedin High School. Emergency responders got word of the spraying incident just before 11:30 a.m. today.

According to 18-year-old senior Thomas Taylor, four female students were fighting in a courtyard between fourth and fifth periods. Taylor said teachers were unable to stop the fight, and that's when school resource officers broke out the spray.

Teachers and students who had gathered to watch the fight were exposed. Two individuals exposed to the spray have been taken to the hospital, but their injuries are considered minor.

The four girls -- two 14-year-olds and two 16-year-olds -- were arrested on disorderly conduct charges, deputies said. Investigators think the fight stemmed from an ongoing conflict.
