Feds investigate Tampa's Without Walls church

The ranking member of the Senate Committee on Finance has begun an investigation of the financial structure of six television ministries, including Tampa's Without Walls International Church and Paula White Ministries.

In a five-page letter sent to ministers Randy and Paula White on Monday, Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, set a Dec. 6 deadline for answers regarding the couple's personal and professional financial histories. In August, the Whites announced they planned to divorce.

The sweeping investigation pinpoints five specific areas, including executive compensation, real and personal assets, and other general expenses paid or received, mostly since 2004. Among the inquiries:

* Detailed explanations of compensation received by the Whites, including all cash and other gifts.

* Dates and locations of all board meetings since 2004. The letter also calls for the names of those who attended the meetings, as well as the total cost for lodging, meals, travel and entertainment.

* Statements for all credit cards used by the Whites since 2004 for expenses related to the
ministries, including explanations for clothing and cosmetic surgery.

* A list of expenses paid by the ministries relating to homes purchased by the Whites in Tampa; San Antonio, Texas; New York City; and Malibu, Calif. The letters also call for the addresses and size of each residence.

* The year, make and model of all vehicles and aircraft purchased, leased or maintained by the ministries. Copies of flight records also are requested.

* A receipt and documentation of payment method for a Bentley convertible reportedly purchased by the Whites as a tax-exempt gift for Texas author Bishop T.D. Jakes.

* All domestic and overseas bank accounts and investments belonging to the ministries.

* Names and addresses for the publishers of all commercial-related goods relating to the ministry, such as books and audio-video recordings of sermons.

* Detailed accounting of $871,000 worth of merchandise reportedly sold to the church since 2005 by two private businesses owned by the Whites. The letter also calls for the names of those companies and the amounts paid by the church.

Grassley said in his letter that the investigation of the six ministries stems from multiple news reports that have "caused some concern for the Finance Committee."

"It is important that the Congress and the public have confidence that public charities, which benefit from very significant tax breaks, are operated in a manner that promotes continued trust and that these charities adhere to the guidelines established by the Internal Revenue Service," wrote Grassley, former chairman of the Finance Committee.

In a prepared statement released by their public relations firm, Tampa-based Tucker/Hall, the Whites issued a statement Monday saying they had learned about the investigation through a reporter.

"We're assuming it's authentic--but we find it unusual, since the IRS has separate powers to
investigate religious organizations if they think it's necessary," the statement said. "So we find it odd that the IRS did not initiate this investigation. It also seems odd that they have asked about areas that have no relationship to the operation of the church."

Also included in the investigation are Bishop Eddie Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Ga.; David and Joyce Meyer of Joyce Meyer Ministries in Fenton, Mo.; Creflo and Taffi Dollar of World Changers Church International in College Park, Pa.; Kenneth and Gloria Copeland of Copeland Ministries in Newark, Texas; and Benny Hinn of World Healing center of Grapevine, Texas.

"Historically, Americans have given generously to religious organizations," Grassley wrote, "and those who do should be assured that their donations are being used for the tax-exempt purposes of the organizations."

Not all "mega" churches are like this - I have had my doubts about this organzation for many years and choose to stay away - but Joyce Meyers is invaluable to me - her organization does wonderful things all over the world which I can't say for many other ministries. Joyce Meyers has helped me turn my life around in a very healthy way and I don't even tithe to her because I don't have very much money but I would if I could because she is open about their financials and where they spend their money. She has built entire neighborhoods and given fleets of boats to areas that were wiped out in the tsunami. She doesn't have houses in every city. So please don't generalize that "ALL" evangelist are like the Whites as they are not and people seeking Christ need to know that. There are dishonest business people, athletes and movie stars but we don't say that all of these groups are bad because of the dishonest. When Jesus saw that His house had become "a den of robbers", He went into the temple, drove everyone out and overturned the tables of the moneychangers. They were ripping off the people by forcing them to buy the doves at the temple and claiming that the sacrifices they had brought were not good enough. They were doing this in God's house. They knew exactly what they were doing, and I'm sure that these people lived quite well off the money they took in. They had no fear of God, so they either did not really believe in God and His coming judgment, or they were so taken by their desire for material wealth that they were forced to choose between two masters, God or money. They chose money.

Randy and Paula White have shown where their loyalties lie. They drive expensive cars, fly in their own private jets, and own houses in places like Malibu. It sounds like they too have turned God's house into "a den of robbers", have chosen to put material wealth above God and to use the people’s tithes and offerings for their own benefit and not for God's work.

Did Randy and Paula White get into the ministry for this purpose? Probably not. But you cannot serve two masters. The danger of these mega-churches is the temptations of power and money. There must be accountability and separation of power. When people become trapped in spiritual bondage to things like money, power and fame, they are no longer serving God and obviously have no fear of Him.

The Whites are now beginning to reap what they have sown. The sad and angering fact is that "Christians" like Randy and Paula White are pushing unbelievers away from the church instead of drawing them in. I'm a Christian, but I agree with the outrage of unbelievers and the calls of "hypocrites" and "swindlers". Jesus commanded His followers to spread the good news of the gospel (that sinners can be saved from their sins and the coming judgment), to take up their crosses and follow Him, to lose their lives for Him so that they may have eternal life.

Christian apologist, Ravi Zacharias, said, "a religion should never be judged by its abuses." In the same way, Christianity should not be judged by White’s abuses. Jesus said that there would be wheat and tares in the church that would not be separated until the Day of Judgment. I'm grateful when some of these tares are yanked out before that time.

I am petitioning to you for your intervention into a situation of great injustice taking place in the looting case as well as for the Petitioned written response to this letter for our common good and interest, according to the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. According to information, the Church Paid part of the former Board Chairman’s embezzlement of $70,000 of the Church money and his legal fees. Why it subsidizes the embezzler?

Also the Church paid the legal fees for the six plaintiffs who
took a legal action, demanding $4,000,000 damages, in the name of the Church, against the innocent family which tried to protect the Trust Fund. They usurped the name of the Church for extortion. Eventually the case was sanctioned as frivolous and fined for the contempt court.

At the sanction hearings, the judge ordered that the Church could take action to recover the damages from those who disgraced the Church. But the Church officers did not do anything about the possible recovery. Rather, without any remorse, they laundered the immigrant’s pennies to rewardingly pay even their penalties and attorney fees. Thus, the victory sadly short-lived.

Another case, one plaintiff put the defendant on trial at a full jury with the charges of felony which falsely accused him and his son attempted murders of plaintiff, his family and other Church members. He demanded $4,000,000 extortion. Reverend Won Tae Cha, Mrs. Plaintiff and his underlings come to support the falsely created felony case on the trial, a satanic ritual at best. Paradoxically, the Church paid his legal fees too.

I was pro se for the trial as did not have financial resources.

According to the court records, the Church hierarchies - the bishop, superintendent or pastor – illegally deceived the Judge at an ex parte conference as if it was Church related and confirmed the criminality. However, the bishop refused to name who were at it for the repeatedly written requests to him. What travesty is this?
Another question is still lingering on how the $180,000 building repair contract lost for nothing through related party transactions.

The looting of the fund led this historic Church into a financial and moral bankruptcy –– belief degeneration - for more than a decade that personally benefited which triggered by his mentor who, the pastor said, sent him to this Church.

The New York State Attorney General advised it could recover the abused fund from them. But the trustees did not do it, stating it would be costly for the Church to do so.

The Church officers seemed to have blessed the abusers with attorney fees, cursing the falsely accused. Thus, the looters had the cool lunch with blessings under a comradeship.

Why the Church paid even the abuse-investigation while demonizing the protector of the Church? Needless to say they dumped the Ten Commandments, ambushed the truth in order to make a cool shelter for the looters.

Didn’t they make UMC an illicit outlaw-Church? –. “Robbers’ Den”? (Mt 21:13)

The looting is against the donors’ will.

If the Church officers are not interested in protecting the Church’s interest. How could they expect any further assistance from the civil authorities whom they so heartlessly contempt?

While in discussion of the looting with the Superintendent, the pastor asserted the request for the recovery of the looted fund was “anti-Church” and “anti-Church interest.”

He should have known such assertions had no Jesus cool in contrary to the historical iniquities. For they were defamatory and insult to the Christian community standard under any circumstances. It does not fit to be a pastoral reasoning as if spitting to the pulpit.

Now, those who supported the litigation with false affidavits in a Taliban way against the innocent are still ominously holding saintly positions in the Church.

It appears they could re-enact the violent looting drama of the Building Trust Fund with cool faces without regard the Church rules, the civil authorities. It rewarded them, placing the innocent in the perilous position again as if a noose is on the adversary in order for them to justify the wicked looting. Is the fund open for free cool looting again?

In addition, there appears his pressuring to re-establish elder system as a new power structure in this small congregation. He should have known there are many elder hungry and power starved which could shield his position. It is questionable if the Church could succeed coolly with such questionable human qualities in this morally troubled season.

Remember such ambivalence to the truth could undermine the prestige of the Church hierarchies, the United Methodist Church denomination and the Christian value system. In a sense, the Church leadership seems to be on the way to “God is dead.”

Recently, the Church Council decided that the auditing of the Building Trust Fund should be done by a CPA from the financial transactions of 2000, which could be done effectively without delay, according to the Audit Manual of UMC. Remember the Bible said, “The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” (1Ti 6:10).

The Bishop appointed him to lead the Church according to the teachings of the Church (Book of Discipline). Why could he not do it right now? Clear the accounting fraud, if any, in good faith!

Our Church history, aged 85, is often falsely glorified to others in contrary to the dark images as the mother Church in the City. Needless to say, the negative image in the recent history is well known to the Korean immigrant community. It is questionable, at this point, any refined rhetoric could convince them otherwise.

Now, it is Biblically clear that they are common liars, embezzlers and, perhaps, the greatest scabs and cancers on the face of Christianity in the twenty first century. The amnesiac Church sadly become a joiner of them, who denied a legal relief for the beaten Samaritans, the defendants.

It is about the time for the ministry to dissect the Jesus injustice and discover the naked truth of the moral and religious iniquities of the leadership and to deliver the amnesiac Church from the cancer, insanity and scandals.

Ignoring or stonewalling to the legitimate ecclesiastical inquiries is unwise, “If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”(Mt 15:14.) They are indeed fallen into a pit – A very dangerous, stinky pit.

This petition is to sincerely remind them again the reality of the situation demands our moral renewal and repentance under their faithful pastoral leadership.

Didn’t Vick’s dog have more human rights than real human beings? Shouldn’t the Church be a place more humane than Vick’s dog house? Is the Gospel reversed in UMC? Where is the replacement? There should be a criminal investigation to breakdown the evil network.

We must stop placing our Church on the way to “God is dead” as once did by Rudolph Kos, Henley Lyons, Tammy & Bakker, Hae Jong Kim and Ted Haggard. We must pray God for our rehabilitation with them from the deadly temptations.

If you, readers keep quiet, “the stones will cry out.” (Luke 19:39-40). Please help the Church to be revived. She badly needs your supporting prayers. Every reader’s response is a petition for better tomorrows of our souls in UMC. There is a choice for the Jesus people on the issue. If you can save this one, you can save all UMC. That’s a lot of faithful years is it not. And now what began as a simple request for answers over two years ago, is now national news. (Mail, Email, , Phone, and even visiting Eagle Mountain Church personally) We were in Dallas for the filming of a documentary (Suffer the Children sufferthechildren.com)which was being funded, and produced by director Trever Glass. The film was to show, from the victims point of view, the tragic abuse, suffering , and fraudulent behaviors preformed by certain mega church ministers, mainly focusing on the prosperity gospel ministers. I was asked if I would like to visit EMIC, and take a tour of the massive facilities. Nervously I said yes. Was I finally going to be given the chance of speaking with either of you? With a copy of the original letter, and pictures of mom before, and after BVOV, tucked safely in our backpack we began the tour that would leave me with even more questions than answers. The tour guide was very nice, and very informative. She had not a clue that with every gloating word she spoke, I was fighting back the tears they were bringing. Were the trophies you have proudly displayed at EMIC, acquired on these trips? Did you pay to have them stuffed, or did the church catch that bill for you? There I was standing in the maculate office, (by the way, how much did that high dollar office furniture set you or the ministry back), of the very people I felt were most responsible for my mothers death. No you didn’t put a gun to her head, but your guidance did prove to seal her fate. I do highly recommend this tour to all your partners that contribute to this lifestyle you both so take advantage of. Nor you or Gloria were present the day we dropped by, but I left the letter, and photos with an employee of EMIC. In February of this year WFAA News in Dallas broadcasted the findings of an investigation (by Brett Shipp) regarding the misuse of the ministry’s jet. I’m sorry but it is really hard to comprehend you and your wife going on vacation in a jet my mother paid for with her life. Just incase you missed the news broadcast, that was one comment I voiced loud and clear. After that news broadcast aired, I began relying on WWW.WFAA.COM for any new developments, or some kind of comment from anyone at BVOV, EMIC, or either of you personally. The broadcast received the same response that I had come to know all to well over the years, no response, from either of you. Being in the public eye I’m sure has it’s advantages and also disadvantages. You are looked up to by millions of people. It never crossed your minds that a tragedy such as my mom’s was a possibility? You take on a huge responsibility when you get in front of a camera, step onto a stage, and in the recordings of your tapes and cd’s, to each and every one who are watching and listening. Your words can, will , and have, become fatal, the question now is not will it happen again, but when, if your words go unchanged someone’s else’s death is inevitable. As for my family the damage is irreversible. The probe into your finances is long overdue. As for the ones already passed on, the bankrupt, the homeless, and the devastated lives your ministry has destroyed over the years, but it’s better late than never!! I’ve been told by some that my mothers story, and my persistence for the truth, played a part in the investigations into your finances. If so my objective is done. Showing the public the possible consequences in becoming involved with the prosperity gospel was my main objective!!!! As well as taking the tour of your ministries assets, your partners need to read for themselves, (anyone sending money to your ministry) the requests from the Senate related to your finances. So we are basically still paying for that jet, and the joyrides both of you take on it. When mom gave her life for your ministry, and now possibly our home will be lost also, I believe that gave us a right to know where the money goes. God knows we all, even both of you, make mistakes in life. The difference between both of you and us is plane as day, we know wrong from right! The good hearted, and the sincere, try to make amends for their mistakes, and are most likely forgiven, on earth and in heaven. It’s never to late to start this process. I on the other hand, will never be able to forgive, nor forget. We never asked to become involved with either of you, or your false, and dangerous ministry! If you don’t all ready know me I’m Christian Beach granddaughter of Bonnie Parker. The girl who had to watch her grandmother go threw so much pain for her trust in god through you. You didn’t help her by telling her not to go to the doctor. No you told her that the doctor was the work of the devil. Yes I remember some of the stuff from your shows and CD’s. My grandmother would put so much of her money in to checks and some as just cash, so much in fact that I can’t even recall exact amounts. How exactly much does your healing cost, because my grandmother paid with her money and her life? I watch your shows, listened to your CD’s at the same time watched my grandmother slowly and painfully be killed by your word not God’s word your word!!! You can do what you want and say what you want but you can never be forgiven by me or my family for what you did to us. Don’t want the money she sent you back. I just want you to feel the pain that I have felt day after day since she died. How does it make you feel to take a nine year olds grandmother from her? Now the next time you are taking money out of letters and not even reading the at all, think of what you have done to our family by not reading my grandmothers!!!

That letter was written by my daughter, which was nine when mom passed away. I did not encourage her to do this, she insisted. Mom entrusted her with portions of her involvement regarding both of you. She is just beginning to talk more about the secrets mom kept hidden away from all but her apparently. I have not questioned her about her relationship with mom, I simply let her talk about her memories, when she feels ready. The relationship mom and sissy(nickname), shared was like mine and my mothers. Why mom reviled things to her only, I guess will remain a mystery. Why her and not me, was it the fact she was just a child? When she speaks of listening to your material over and over, it just adds to the
many questions we have that you will not answer. Have these dangerous twisted words been implanted in her head also? The thought of this scares me to death. She as well as us suffered a terrible loss, but her more so. During the time mom was in the nursing home, most of our time was spent by her side. Even though she was just a few miles away from my home, we were not letting her be alone at all. I hired sitters to stay with her even when we were there, merely walking out of her room scared her. The staff at the home was kind, and tried filling her every need. Each one took her into there hearts, and visversa. We turned to family and friends to help keep our lives going outside the nursing home, which also turned out to be devastating. Christians step grandfather took advantage of what was already a bad situation, by putting his filthy hands on my child(sissy). He pleaded guilty, and is being punished for his actions! My point of telling you this is once again, letting you know just how much we have suffered. Had all our attention not been on mom, this surely could have been prevented!!!! Unbelievable that’s still not the end either. My brother Todd felt drugs would help him through all this hell, he was picked up for simple possession in September of 2004.To this day he still can’t talk about, or deal with the memories of her, bottles of whiskey took the place of drugs.

Personally, I could not live with myself after it was brought to my attention that the mere words coming from my mouth, could indeed cause someone to loose their life. Maybe, hopefully, someday sooner than latter, the dangers related to prosperity gospel will become clear to you both, until then God help us all.
Your problem now is, no longer am I the only one publicly asking for answers, you now have the whole United States of America awaiting to see how this Senate investigation unfolds. In February of this year WFAA News in Dallas broadcasted the findings of an investigation (by Brett Shipp) regarding the misuse of the ministry’s jet. I’m sorry but it is really hard to comprehend you and your wife going on vacation in a jet my mother paid for with her life. Just incase you missed the news broadcast, that was one comment I voiced loud and clear. After that news broadcast aired, I began relying on WWW.WFAA.COM for any new developments, or some kind of comment from anyone at BVOV, EMIC, or either of you personally. The broadcast received the same response that I had come to know all to well over the years, no response, from either of you. Being in the public eye I’m sure has it’s advantages and also disadvantages. You are looked up to by millions of people. It never crossed your minds that a tragedy such as my mom’s was a possibility? You take on a huge responsibility when you get in front of a camera, step onto a stage, and in the recordings of your tapes and cd’s, to each and every one who are watching and listening. Your words can, will , and have, become fatal, the question now is not will it happen again, but when, if your words go unchanged someone’s else’s death is inevitable. As for my family the damage is irreversible. The probe into your finances is long overdue. As for the ones already passed on, the bankrupt, the homeless, and the devastated lives your ministry has destroyed over the years, but it’s better late than never!! I’ve been told by some that my mothers story, and my persistence for the truth, played a part in the investigations into your finances. If so my objective is done. Showing the public the possible consequences in becoming involved with the prosperity gospel was my main objective!!!! As well as taking the tour of your ministries assets, your partners need to read for themselves, (anyone sending money to your ministry) the requests from the Senate related to your finances. I believe they also will have a few questions for you. Oh and the comment you made when caught off guard by the media, WFAA news, (you may view this on there web site), and are questioned about the misuse of the ministry’s jet, your comment was ”None of Your Business”, do either of you have the courage to look me in the eyes and say that to me? The cost we paid for that jet can never be repaid. Expenses that accrued during and after moms illness, left us with no choice but to take out a loan on our house, which was paid in full at the beginning of 2004. This was all to much for us to handle, we have struggled to make the note the last few years, but we can’t last much longer. So we are basically still paying for that jet, and the joyrides both of you take on it. When mom gave her life for your ministry, and now possibly our home will be lost also, I believe that gave us a right to know where the money goes. We did request a accounting of all mom’s contributions, several times, which I have enclosed in this letter, but yet again no response was given. Are either of you, seeing the pattern here? God knows we all, even both of you, make mistakes in life. The difference between both of you and us is plane as day, we know wrong from right! The good hearted, and the sincere, try to make amends for their mistakes, and are most likely forgiven, on earth and in heaven. It’s never to late to start this process. I on the other hand, will never be able to forgive, nor forget. We never asked to become involved with either of you, or your false, and dangerous ministry! Unwillingly, and unfortunately our lives crossed paths with the death of my mother, I can’t change that, but I wish I could!

If you don’t all ready know me I’m Christian Beach granddaughter of Bonnie Parker. The girl who had to watch her grandmother go threw so much pain for her trust in god through you. You didn’t help her by telling her not to go to the doctor. No you told her that the doctor was the work of the devil. Yes I remember some of the stuff from your shows and CD’s. My grandmother would put so much of her money in to checks and some as just cash, so much in fact that I can’t even recall exact amounts. How exactly much does your healing cost, because my grandmother paid with her money and her life? I watch your shows, listened to your CD’s at the same time watched my grandmother slowly and painfully be killed by your word not God’s word your word!!! You can do what you want and say what you want but you can never be forgiven by me or my family for what you did to us. Don’t want the money she sent you back. I just want you to feel the pain that I have felt day after day since she died. How does it make you feel to take a nine year olds grandmother from her? Now the next time you are taking money out of letters and not even reading the at all, think of what you have done to our family by not reading my grandmothers!!!

That letter was written by my daughter, which was nine when mom passed away. I did not encourage her to do this, she insisted. Mom entrusted her with portions of her involvement regarding both of you. She is just beginning to talk more about the secrets mom kept hidden away from all but her apparently. I have not questioned her about her relationship with mom, I simply let her talk about her memories, when she feels ready. The relationship mom and sissy(nickname), shared was like mine and my mothers. Why mom reviled things to her only, I guess will remain a mystery. Why her and not me, was it the fact she was just a child? When she speaks of listening to your material over and over, it just adds to the
many questions we have that you will not answer. Have these dangerous twisted words been implanted in her head also? The thought of this scares me to death. She as well as us suffered a terrible loss, but her more so. During the time mom was in the nursing home, most of our time was spent by her side. Even though she was just a few miles away from my home, we were not letting her be alone at all. I hired sitters to stay with her even when we were there, merely walking out of her room scared her. The staff at the home was kind, and tried filling her every need. Each one took her into there hearts, and visversa. We turned to family and friends to help keep our lives going outside the nursing home, which also turned out to be devastating. Christians step grandfather took advantage of what was already a bad situation, by putting his filthy hands on my child(sissy). He pleaded guilty, and is being punished for his actions! My point of telling you this is once again, letting you know just how much we have suffered. Had all our attention not been on mom, this surely could have been prevented!!!! Unbelievable that’s still not the end either. My brother Todd felt drugs would help him through all this hell, he was picked up for simple possession in September of 2004.To this day he still can’t talk about, or deal with the memories of her, bottles of whiskey took the place of drugs.

I find it rather criminal that politicians in Washington maintain the IRS and income tax knowing that the 16th Amendment was never ratified by the states in 1913. The real tax fraud is being committed by Congress and its IRS. If you doubt it, read the well researched work of Bill Benson titled "The Law that Never Was" or "Tax Revolt" by Martin Lawson.

The American sheep are so eager to let the vicious wolves in power to eat alive some of the fat sheep because of their wealth. How do their get their wealth by preaching and teaching at a big church? NO. They gain their wealth by speaking at conferences, revivals, on television, by book and DVD publications, as well as by investing their money.

The millionaires in Washington are not our benefactors. If Americans want the real tax fraud to end, Americans will demand the 16th Amendment removed from the record and the IRS dismantled. Maybe the sheep would rather be ripped off by the many millionaires in Washington.

Hopefully, the White have followed sound financial practices. Even if not, it does not change the fact that the federal government IRS policies and income tax code is completely illegal.

Are these matters of injustice in the claims of those who cry out about the fraudulent use of building funds and trust funds of the Korean Church in New York? Many Many times church board, members of the church will place there pastors on high pedestal. They think they can do wrong. I think sometimes it gets to the pastors heads and they feel that they deserve everything they get and the Lord wants them to have it. They are many souls in churches are hurting financial and they give what they can. Some will do without so the pastor can have the best of everything.
Souls suffer while preachers get rich. The Lord is coming soon and many will reap what they sow.
