One dead, another injured in crash on U.S. 19 access road

A driver of a gray Mustang died Monday afternoon when he crashed head-on into a red Volkswagen on a U.S. 19 access road near the 2600 block of Drew Street.

The driver of the Volkswagen was injured in the 2 p.m. crash.

Chris Hopper, an employee at Kane's Furniture, was outside smoking a cigarette and witnessed the crash.

"I was horrified," she said. "I'm still very, very rattled."

Hopper said the Mustang driver turned left onto the access road from Drew Street and was heading in the wrong direction at a high rate of speed.

"He made a mistake and went the wrong way," she said. "He died because of that mistake."

Tony Millett was on his way to Best Buy and saw the accident. He said the driver of the gray Mustang appeared to be having a seizure or some sort of medical emergency. Millett said the driver jumped the median before smashing into the Volkswagen and a Hummer.
