Police: Teacher promised 'A' in exchange for sex

BARTOW -- Authorities arrested a 29-year-old teacher after they say he promised a student an 'A' in his class in exchange for oral sex.

Arrested was Isaac N. Tillis of Highland City, a Bartow High School teacher.

According to the arrest report:

On Tuesday, a 16-year-old girl asked Tillis how she could improve her grade through extra credit work. He told her he could assign her extra work but in return she would have to "do something for him.'' When she asked what that meant, he whispered "blow job'' while making a motion with his hand toward his mouth.

Shortly thereafter, authorities say Tillis wrote the girl a hall pass and a note stating he would give her an 'A' in exchange for a blow job. The girl told the teacher she did not do those kinds of things.

The girl told authorities, who equipped her with audio surveillance Wednesday. She agreed to meet the teacher at the end of the school day.

After school, he told her to follow him to the teacher's lounge, which was vacant. He then led her to an adjacent bathroom there, pulled down his pants and told her to perform oral sex.

Bartow police arrested Tillis Wednesday at school after the girl spoke a predetermined code into the recording system.

Tillis is charged with solicitation of a minor.

Simply put this man is a child predator and as such he needs to be buried under the jail. A relative of mine at age twelve was kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and then her throat was slahed, and she was left to die bleeding to death on a cold riverbank in November. The attacker was her mothers estranged husband.

All child predators need to be dealt with in the harshest means. They cross a line when they choose children for their criminal actions.

He'll be giving oral sex on a daily basis in prison. He'll do 10 years minimum for this. if he's bonded out it wouldn't surprise me if he flees or hangs himself. His whole existence in prison will be as a sex slave.

I don't know if I'd go that far. The girl in question is 16, not 6, and I don't think that "child" is an accurate way to describe a 16-year-old. Certainly they're not fully adults either, but at that age they surely have more in common with 20-year-olds than with 8-year-olds.

That said, she shouldn't have to put up with this crap from a teacher. No woman should have to put up with that behavior from someone in a position of power over her, whether she's 16 or 26 or 66. Period.

But I wonder - is this sort of thing really any less objectionable when a college professor does it to one of his students? A two-year difference in her age would have made this a perfectly legal transaction, but would it have made it any less immoral, traumatic or degrading?

Frankly, I don't see a difference, probably because it's not her age, but the harassment and coercion she suffered, that is the real issue here.

I understand that, for legal purposes, we have to draw a line somewhere, and we call that line the age of consent. I admit that I have no idea what the age of consent laws say in Florida. If the law says that 16 is too young, then that's what the law says, and if the guy's guilty, he should be punished in accordance with the law. But I'd be more inclined to agree with the "buried under the jail" sentiment if his intended victim had been an actual child.
