Man shot outside his Clearwater home

A 19-year-old was shot while standing with a group of people outside his Clearwater home early this morning, Clearwater police say.

Clearwater detectives say Cordarel Jeter was shot by Willie Ashley of Safety Harbor, who fired into a crowd outside the Jeter home in the 1100 block of Tangerine Street about 1:20 a.m., then drove away.

Jeter had two gunshot wounds in his upper body and was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in critical condition. He is now in stable condition, police say.

The shooting apparently stemmed from a fight with one of Jeter’s family members earlier in the night, police say.

A witness followed a car after the shooting and notified police of its location. Ashley was arrested a few minutes later on attempted homicide charges.
