Riverview High student injured in bike-van crash

RIVERVIEW -- Deputies say a 16-year-old Riverview High School student was injured early Tuesday morning when he rode his bicycle into the path of a van.

Deputies say Brandon P. Johns of 9603 Wydella St. in Riverview was heading north on Balm Riverview Road at 6:53 a.m. when he rode in front of a van that was turning left onto McMullen Loop, striking the left front of the van. Johns sustained a minor leg injury. The driver of the van, Deborah Buckans, 49, of 6101 Alice Ave. in Gibsonton, was not injured, deputies say.

Johns' parents picked him up from the scene.
