Spring Hill woman dies in car crash

BROOKSVILLE -- A 23-year-old Spring Hill woman was killed early this morning when her car swerved into the median and struck a tree.

Kathleen Gutierrez was headed west on Spring Hill Drive in Brooksville about 4 a.m. when the vehicle headed into the grassy median, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The two-door 1996 Chrysler then slammed into a tree, the report said, flipping over and coming to rest in the eastbound lanes.

Gutierrez, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation was ongoing, and the cause of the crash hadn't been determined, according to the Highway Patrol.
