Bicyclist hit by car, critically injured

PASADENA -- An 18-year-old is being treated at Bayfront Medical Center this morning for life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car.

The crash occurred near Pasadena Avenue and Park Street about 4:56 a.m., according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

That's when the driver of a Crown Victoria headed northbound on Pasadena Avenue struck a bicyclist who was crossing in front and heading east.

The bicyclist, Benjamin Hernandez, was taken to Bayfront. The driver, 70-year-old Michael Zelinski, and his wife, Marlene Zelinski, were not injured. The couple were heading home to Canada at the time of the crash.

Deputies continue to investigate.
