Body of missing Pinellas Park man, 48, found in pond
PINELLAS PARK -- Several days after he was reported missing by relatives, the body of a local man was recovered in a pond near his mobile home Wednesday, police said.
Tom Savage, 48, was reported missing by his sister Monday. Relatives told police that Savage, who often forgot his surroundings when not taking medication for mental illness, hadn't been seen since Friday.
Investigators were called back to the Pinellas Cascades mobile home park,at the 7300 block of 80th Avenue, after someone at the park saw a body floating in the water Wednesday, said Pinellas Park police spokesman Capt. Sandy Forseth.
There were no obvious signs of trauma, Forseth said. A preliminary autopsy suggested Savage had drowned. The results of toxicology tests are pending.

These strange drownings in retention ponds seem to be happening on almost a weekly basis. In the last 15 years that I have lived here, it used to happen once, maybe twice a year. Makes one wonder if there is some sort of strange serial killer at work.

Did he own that mortgage company that used to be on Alt 19 near Crystal Beach? Mortgage business is tough, but is it any reason to jump in a pond?

Lot's of random deaths...due to drownings, I do not believe it. I can understand getting lost...this is 2 separate issues though.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. I hope the local authorities investigate this fully because I don't understand how this could have happened and no one could have seen anything.

I knew Tom at the pool. I watched him ride his bike everywhere. He was physically healthy and he knew how to swim. That pond is not very deep if you know what we have seen during some of our severe droughts. Something doesn't fit...
My blessings of Peace to his family..

this was my uncle. he had his issues, but he knew that area well, we lived there fifteen years. what this story does not mention is the pond is waist high at it's deepest point. it is located in an area behind many houses, where he would have no business being. his "friend" supposedly brought him to the store and then tom left his house, not to be seen again. his house door was left open, radio on, wallet in the house, and keys on the grass outside. last seen friday night-not found until tuesday at midnight in a waist deep pond. it is unfortunate that people assume because he had a mental disability, that it is cut and dry. (he had brain damage because he was hit by a car). there are some shady characters in that neighborhood, who knew tom well. many who took advantage of him financially. i want everyone to keep these things in mind. and to the person who wrote about the mortage comment, that is not the same person, and even if it was, that is a highly insensitive and offensive comment. thank you everyone else for your kind words.

I happen to agree with you, Rosanna. The loss of someone that is close to you or a family member is a hard part of life as we all place our years behind us. Tom was a very friendly and accepting soul of a Man, for reasons that I never came to know. I live next door from him and on weekends, or sporadic weekdays off, I would see some strange comings and goings in the middle of the night. I have an opinion that he was taken advantage of by some predator person with the notion that he was a disgarded individual of society, and would not be missed. From how I came to vaguely know Tom, I do not think that he held a mean bone in his body. I hope that the story is not so cold that our great public service investigaters will not sign this off to just an accident.
His house has been broken into, since his passing..
Peace and Love to your Family in these hard times..
