"Controlled" fire damages property

KEYSVILLE -- What was supposed to be a controlled burn by a private landowner has spread from an orange grove to an adjacent property, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said.

Fire Rescue learned at noon today that two sheds were on fire at 8231 Carey Road, Capt. Bruce Delk said. Rescue units arrived and contained the blaze, which started next door as a legal burn.

The Hillsborough Environmental Protection Commission will investigate why the fire spread, Delk said.

-- Andrew Meacham, Times Staff Writer

NOTE: A previous version of this story incorrectly identified the party that started the burn. A private landowner operating with Division of Forestry authorization conducted the burn.
