Hands ready for takeoff

Cayden Crisp, 3, pretends to fly down the Old Gandy Bridge Friendship Trail with his grandparents Taryl Crisp, left, and Charlie Crisp as local children, accompanied by their families and advocates on their behalf, walked across the bridge as part of Children's Week at Hands Across the Bay on Saturday. The event, sponsored by 16 child-oriented organizations, included speeches and the event's signature paper hands, painted and decorated by schoolchildren. The hands, along with thousands of others from around the state, will hang in the Capitol beginning today in Tallahassee. "Our kids are important and our Legislature needs to know, especially in this time of budget cuts," says Taryl Crisp. [JOHN PENDYGRAFT | Times]
