One abandoned dog adopted, another still needs home

More than 50 people called the Humane Society of Tampa Bay today after reading about the plight of 12-year-old dogs Dexter and Avery, whose owner recently lost his home due to foreclosure.

Avery was adopted late Wednesday, but her brother, Dexter, is still awaiting a new home.

Several people said they were interested in him, and shelter officials hope he will be adopted soon. Area animal shelters are seeing an influx of animals whose owners have lost their homes and can't take their pets with them.
