Cab driver booked on DUI charges

Younglove CLEARWATER -- A cab driver who crashed into a Pinellas County Sheriff's sergeant and candidate for sheriff turned himself in this afternoon on charges of DUI causing serious injury and property damage.

Lloyd Melvin Younglove, 58, (left) was driving a cab southbound on U.S. 19 in Clearwater on Feb. 27 when he turned east, hitting an unmarked sheriff's car that was traveling north near Winding Creek Boulevard.

Investigators believed the crash to be alcohol-related, and Younglove had a reported blood alcohol level of .21, more than twice the level at which a driver is presumed impaired.

Sgt. John Pikramenos, 53, and Younglove were seriously injured. He has been with the sheriff's office nearly 30 years and is running as a Democrat against incumbent Sheriff Jim Coats, a Republican.

Younglove's total bond was set at $5,250.
