Jail commission meets tonight

TAMPA — How do Hillsborough County deputies deal with inmates who have physical disabilities, are under the influence of alcohol or other substances, or those have mental health issues.

The Independent Review Commission on Jails convenes tonight, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in a public meeting to discuss the policies and procedures currently in place at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. The meeting will be held at the Sheriff’s Office Training Division offices at 1409 Falkenburg Road.

The commission was formed in February at the behest of Sheriff David Gee following several public allegations of inmate abuse at the jail.
