Sheriff's deputies, armed man in standoff

DURANT -- An armed man who led authorities on a chase this afternoon is now in a standoff with Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies and SWAT team members near Turkey Creek and Durant Roads. The standoff started after the man escaped a vehicle and headed into a field with nearby woods. As of 6 p.m., deputies were reporting shots had been fired and the armed man was in an area west of Turkey Creek Road and south of Durant Road. About 30 deputies and SWAT members were at the scene, and Durant Road was blocked at Turkey Creek Road.
