ST. PETERSBURG -- Five people, including three children, were injured in a serious accident this morning on Ninth Avenue North and 34th Street when a teenage driver ran a red light and struck another car, police said.
Kim Nguyen, 17, was heading north on 34th Street in a 2008 Toyota when she ran a red light and struck a 1993 Honda driven by Daphne Davis, police said. Davis, 28, was heading west on Ninth Avenue around 7:15 a.m. when she was struck, police said. After the collision, Davis's Toyota began to spin out of control. It rotated between two parked cars, jumped a curb and hit the support post between two gas pumps at an Exxon Station. Neither gas pump was hit.
As the Honda spun, five year-old Da-Nasia Davis was thrown from the vehicle. Davis and two other children, 14 year-old Javaris Johnson and 7 year-old Marques Vaughn, were also injured. None of the injuries were life-threatening, police said. No one in the Honda wore a seat belt.
Ngyuen was treated and released from Edward White hospital. She was cited for running a red light, and Davis was cited for having kids in the car without seatbelts.
