Man and his stepson shot behind their St. Petersburg home

ST. PETERSBURG -- Two men were injured, one critically, when they were shot in the alley behind their home Tuesday night.

It happened about 9 p.m. behind a residence at 4401 Fairfield Ave S. Police said they found evidence that the shooting may be drug-related.

"This is probably going to be a drug deal gone bad," said St. Petersburg police spokesman Bill Proffitt.

The victims were identified as Durell D. Robinson, 22, and his stepfather, John N. Green, 48. Robinson was shot in the arm and released from the hospital. Green was shot in the torso and is in critical condition at Bayfront Medical Center.

Proffitt said detectives haven't been able to interview Green because of his injuries.

Friends of the victims said one of the men was taking out the garbage when the shooting occurred, but police were skeptical of that explanation.

"The investigation is still very preliminary, but our homicide investigators believe the shooting has drug overtones and that multiple gunshots were fired at the scene," Proffitt said in a statement.

Few details about the suspects were released Wednesday. No arrests have been made.
