Pedestrian struck by car, killed in Tampa

TAMPA -- A woman was struck by a car and killed while walking along a dark stretch of State Road 580 late last night, according to Florida Highway Patrol officials.

Investigators said the unidentified woman had been "standing or walking in the inside portion" of eastbound SR 580 around 10:25 p.m. when she was struck by a Toyota Camry.

The Camry's driver, Paul Steffens, 20, of Tampa reported the crash. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to the call and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges have been filed.
