Complex will go condo and clothing-optional near Westchase

TAMPA -- An upscale apartment complex at W Hillsborough Avenue and Countryway Boulevard is going condo and -- ahem -- clothing-optional.

The Eden, in its Web site, says it will soon allow nudity in a "private European/South Beach style swimming pool and spa area."

That might fly in Land O'Lakes, but not necessarily in Westchase, the stately planned community just north of the complex. One concerned homeowner, who declined to be quoted, sent an e-mail to that effect, which is making the rounds among taxing district and homeowner association leaders.

Despite her feelings, the complex does not appear to be breaking any laws.

"It looks like they’re taking every necessary precaution," said Debbie Carter, spokeswoman for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. "They're going to have walls and everything else. Unless they’re committing crimes out there, I don't see this as a law enforcement issue."

A condo manager referred questions to a Miami public relations agency, which was closed Tuesday. A "media event" unveiling the pool is in the works, the employee said.
