10-year-old injured in go-cart accident

LAND O'LAKES -- A 10-year-old boy was injured in a go-cart accident near the intersection of Ehren Cutoff and Tower Road in Land O'Lakes.

Austin Carter, a Pineview Elementary Student, hit his head on a concrete pole after he lost control of the cart, which was being dragged by an all-terrain vehicle, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Carter was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital after the Sunday afternoon accident, where he was placed in the pediatric intensive care unit. Several neighborhood kids, ranging from 8 to 14 years old, were playing with the go-cart and ATV Sunday.

No one was wearing protective gear, according to deputies. Carter’s condition was not available today.
