Man jailed after allegedly spanking 10-month-old

PINELLAS PARK -- Loc Ba Nguyen was arrested on a charge of aggravated child abuse early this morning, accused of spanking a 10-month-old baby boy.

Police say he left a large bruise on the right buttock of the child on Tuesday night because the baby would not stop crying or go to sleep.

Pinellas Park police said Nguyen's father turned him in, after he saw the child's injury.

The baby was taken to a hospital and examined, police said, but no internal injuries were reported. Nguyen blamed the child's injury on another adult in the home.

The St. Petersburg Times is withholding the identity of the child and the nature of the boy's relationship with Nguyen. The 37-year-old remains in the Pinellas County jail today, held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
