Cooler weather, weekend rain headed our way

The arrival of a weak northern cold front will drop temperatures a few degrees, forecasters say. And while New Year's Day looks dry, we're also headed for a watery weekend. Meanwhile, morning fog in Pasco and Hernando counties is beginning to dissipate.

7day

The drop will be only a few degrees, but enough to be noticeable, forecasters say. Expect lots of cloud cover beginning New Year's Day through the week. Friday will see a strong chance of rain lasting through the weekend, forecasters say.

"It's going to get a little cooler," said National Weather Service meteorologist Jennifer Colston. "Temperatures will return to what they normally are this time of year."

The good news: The heavy fog that settled over parts of Hernando and Pasco counties is beginning to lift and shift south. Heavy fog advisories have been issued for Sarasota County and points south.
