Gandy open at MLK after crash downed light pole

ST. PETERSBURG -- The mess caused when an overturned SUV sheared a metal light pole on Gandy Boulevard N earlier this afternoon is cleaned up, according to St. Petersburg Fire Rescue. Westbound Gandy is open again near the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street N.

An overturned blue Ford Explorer Sport Trac cut down the light pole about 12:17 p.m., according to Lt. Joel Granata. The driver of the Ford may have lost consciousness, hit the poll and sheared it off as the vehicle rolled over, according to fire rescue.

The vehicle came to rest on its roof, the male driver was freed and treated at the scene for minor injuries, then taken to Bayfront Medical Center.
