Oxygen's 'Snapped' explores Pinellas Park murder

PINELLAS PARK - The premiere of the true-crime series Snapped on the Oxygen Network will feature the 2003 murder-for-love story of Timothy and Ashley Humphrey, including Pinellas Park investigators who handled the case.

Snapped profiles women accused of murder or attempted murder. The show's producers interviewed police Sgt. Scott Golczewski and Lt. Paul Andrews about an investigation and trial that drew national media attention and is one of the area's more memorable crimes of the decade.

The Humphreys were convicted of murder after Ashley Humphrey, then 20, admitted shooting and killing Sandra Lee Rozzo of Pinellas Park in July 2003 at Humphrey's new husband's request.

Rozzo was a former co-worker of Timothy Humphrey's who had accused him of sexually assaulting her. At the time of Rozzo's death, Timothy Humphrey was facing felony battery charges in Hillsborough County in that case and faced 10 years in prison if convicted.

Rozzo was killed at her home at 7818 66th Way N. Using cell phone records and other evidence, police targeted Ashley Humphrey as a suspect, but believed her husband was behind the murder.

Ashley Humphrey was charged with murder in December 2003 and Timothy Humphrey was indicted on the same charge in March of 2004.

Timothy Humphrey was convicted of first-degree murder in 2006 and was sentenced to life in prison. Ashley Humphrey accepted a deal to testify against her husband in exchange for a 25-year prison sentence. Now 26, she will be 46 when released.

St. Petersburg Times reporter Chris Tisch, who covered the case, was also interviewed by Snapped producers.

The show will air on Oxygen at 10 and 11 p.m. tonight, and again at 2 p.m. Saturday.
