Roofing work causes fire in St. Petersburg house

ST. PETERSBURG -- A common roofing practice led to a house fire that displaced two adults and two children today.

A foreman for Old Time Roofing told firefighters that he was torching down roofing sheets when material underneath caught fire in the attic. Torch-down roofing is commonly used for fusing roofing sheets together on flat roofs, according to St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue spokesman Lt. Joel Granata.

Firefighters extinguished the attic fire at 4144 Third Ave. N about 12:30 p.m. The 906-square-foot home is valued at about $124,500. Fire officials estimated the damage at about $20,000. No one was injured.

The American Red Cross is helping to find temporary housing for the residents, Granata said.

Well, I must say, the guy who did this should be held responsible! I cannot believe this company is not putting this family up in a decent hotel, when it was their workers fault that their roof burned. I think it unspickable that they would not have offered them something right away, instead these people had to go and stay at the Salvation Army, that is poor taste as far as this company goes.

Ugh - Last I checked unspickable wasn't a word. You're despicable. "Be-de-be-de-be-de - that's all, folks

UGH, unspickable isnt a word. You're despicable. "Be-de-be-de-be-de - that's all, folks

This family has been put into a situation. The company need's to do the right thing. That is help them in anyway they can!!!

Love that name!! Looney Tunes!!! must be some smart ---! I notice you have nothing to say about a family displaced, need to go back to the cartoon world!!!

I agree with you Katie! I am happy to see there are some smart people out there! This family needs help, it should be the company they had doing the roof to be responsible!

Lets see if "spell check" Loney Tunes, checks out the spelling!!

I think someone should check and see which st pete or tampa fireman he is related to.

TONS OF TORCHING TO CAUSE THIS.

LIARS !! ARSONISTS !!!

Read the article! It wasn't a fireman who started it! It was a roofer! Maybe it was you!!!!!!!!!
