Cold front brings cooler temperatures

Residents can expect clear skies and slightly cooler temperatures today in the wake of the cold front that moved through the area Wednesday.

Today's high will be in the low 70s. Tonight's forecast calls for a low of about 55 degrees with slight winds.

"It's definitely cooler this morning," said Bay News 9 meteorologist Julie Marquez. "It will be nice this afternoon."

Around Tampa Bay, morning temperatures hovered in the 40s and 50s. In the northern counties, such as Hernando and Pasco, there were reports of temperatures only reaching the upper 30s, Marquez said.

Today may feel cooler to some because of the higher-than-normal temperatures seen earlier this week, she said.

The average January temperature for the region is about 62 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, with highs of about 70 and lows in the low 50s.

The rest of the week will only be slightly warmer, forecasters say. Friday and Saturday are both expected to have highs of around 73 degrees and lows in the 50s. Another cold front is expected to move through the area by Sunday.
