Police: Son pleasures himself, then punches mom

DADE CITY -- It all started about 7 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said, when a mother looked outside and saw her 19-year-old son masturbating in the back yard.

The mother yelled. The son, Antwan L. Grandberry, 19, walked around to the front of the house on 13th Street in Dade City and rang the doorbell, according to a Dade City Police report. The mother answered and began cursing and yelling at Grandberry, who then punched his mother in her face, the report said.

Grandberry, who is listed as unemployed, was arrested on a domestic battery charge and is being held in the Land O'Lakes jail in lieu of $500 bail.

This mother obviously failed her son on several levels. She never taught him appropriate behavior or respect. He has no shame in his actions and probably no remorse. Bring back morality. Bring back solid biblical education. Bring back active parenting. Bring back prayer in schools. He should not have hit his mother and he should not have been wanking off ine yard even if the area was secluded.

There is a chance that his mother was a bad woman to deal with and his violence was an eruption from a simmering pressure buildup and her reaction to this illogical act prompted his unwised reaction. Plus, it must be awful embarassing to get caught doing that.

It seems that his mother was far from being the best type of mother too. Her relationship with the son must have been bad for a long time. Cursing out was not appropriate.

My first reaction from reading the article on Viceweekly.com was that the guy might be mentally impaird. May be Until I saw the comment above that she let out a stream of curses I wonder if she was one of those over the wall fire and brimstone types of fundamentalist. Even most of them would not curse in a way that must be normal behavior.

She might be as unqualified to be a mother as he was unqualified to be a son.

One thing that I have learned is that many children develop into bad people because they have even worse parents (worse because they psychologically destroy their children).

Condemning Antwan L. Grandberry or his mother without knowing the full complete facts - not only pertaining to this incident but the history of his growing up - is wrong. One should hold off until all the facts are known. Unfortunately that is not likely to ever be known. The mother now has the sympathy upperhand and she will be believed more.

It is possible that he is (even excluding punching his mother) a very bad person for whatever causes. It is likely that he has a childhood that was an ordeal due to reasons and people whom he had no control over but they had control over him. Of course, he must be dealt with as the person he is now.

The comments by someone about bring prayer back to schools is a bad thing for children who are not Christians - and even likely even if not of his or her variety of Christianity.

Christians should encourage other Christians to teach their religon at home and in churches. Not continueing to try to get it back in schools. It was not the solution to morality way back when I was in school and won't make the children perfect "angels" now. Plus, I've read and heard comments by too many non Christian children who were not only verbal and physically attacked because they weren't Christians by children who were.

Makes the homes good by teaching in school more on how to be good parents. I've talked to some fundamentalists who feels that this should not be taught in schools. Reason is because it would not be done with a (their own) religious slant.

I've met a lot of non Christians (including myself) who are very good people and a lot who called themselve Christians who are only so when it suits them.

I agree with the comments about not using the Bible as a guide. Another reason for agreeing is that if the opportunity should come about a lot of the fanatics would make life hell for the rest who don't see it exactly their way. The biggest difference between the
other Abrahamic religion fanatics and Christian fanatics is that the Moslems have the power. Given the opportunity the situation here could become like it is in Saudi Arabia. The latest incident of such from that hell of a place to live that I learned about was the public lashing of an older woman who got two guys she knew to get something from the store for her. For that she was beaten because women don't have the right to have any contacts with men who are not part of her family. And when it comes to having contacts with a husband who beats her she doesn't really have much rights beyond accepting the mistreatment.

Even if the woman is rapped she can be at fault (because she tempted the guy by existing). Luckily, this is not the way of all Moslems. It is too bad that this backward primative Moslem approach (AND NOT ALL) way exists in other religons too.

By the way, I wonder what would have happen if this situation took place in Saudi Arabia (or similar countries). If the mother had dared to be critical of her son and was physically abused would the complaint have resulted in her arrest?

It must be tough being a single guy in such places where its illegal for women to not have contacts with non family men. Not much opportunities to take cold showers when the average temperature is close to 40 C and there isn't much water anyway.
