Crews battle brush fire in Brooker Creek Preserve

PALM HARBOR -- Fire crews battled a brush fire Saturday that burned about 30 acres in the Brooker Creek Preserve, officials say.

The fire was reported at 1:30 p.m. Firefighters had it out by 4:30 p.m., East Lake District Chief David Toney said.  There were no injuries reported and no buildings were damaged, he said.

Half a dozen homes in nearby Woodfield subdivision had to be evacuated,Toney said, but residents had returned to their homes by late afternoon.

Firefighters were hampered by high winds all afternoon. Some 15 units from nearby fire departments assisted in putting out the blaze.
