Palm Harbor man arrested on child pornography charges

Clearwater police have arrested a Palm Harbor man on charges of possessing child pornography.

Jeffery T. Roberts, who turns 40 on Friday, faces three charges after turning himself in at the department's headquarters at 4 p.m. today. According to Clearwater police, he will be taken to the Pinellas County Jail.

The Clearwater Police Crimes Against Children and Families Unit began its investigation in late January after the suspect's employer contacted police.

The information technology department of the employer, whose name was not made available by police, was performing routine maintenance on the suspect's laptop when it discovered files containing what appeared to be child pornography, police spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts said.

Authorities confirmed the existence of child pornography and seized the computer.

There are no greater crimes than those inflicted upon our most innocent. That being said, if he IS guilty, fry him. BUT, I once heard that the sickos have figured out a way to "modem seek" with their computers. I guess they set up the computer to search for modems that it can capitalize on to store their porn on other unsuspecting computers in hidden files that the person wont even know they have on their unit. The person who told me that said she compressed all her files all the time because I guess it shuts em down and messes up their "plan". But a couple of my IT friends said NOT to compress em all 'cause its super-hard on the hard drive. Anyone else know if theres any validity to what Ive heard about this kinda thing-where people can actually store files on your computer without you even knowing it?
