Clerk shot at Gulfport liquor store
Authorities investigate after an early evening robbery at Gulfport Liquors. [LUIS PEREZ | Times]
GULFPORT -- A clerk was shot at Gulfport Liquors, 4918 Gulfport Blvd., during a robbery at about 6:15 p.m. The clerk, whose name has not been released, was shot in the leg and but released last night from a local hospital. His injuries are not considered life threatening, according to Gulfport police. There were several witnesses, including one inside the store, police said. The two robbers escaped in a black Nissan sedan, either an Altima or a Maxima, police said. The license plate number was 150WBD.
The robbers are described as "black males, in their late teens to early twenties," all between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot-2, according to Gulfport Police. One wore a blue hooded sweatshirt, said witnesses. The store employee was shot in the leg when he momentarily hesitated after the robbers demanded money. They escaped down and alley with cash and bottles of liquor.

Thanks for the info on the suspects. I am glad that I can be pulled over driving home, since I drive a Nissan. Any other descriptions of the subjects?

When the economy is bad, crime goes up. Turning Pinellas County and Tampa Bay into the Wild West isn't the answer.

This happened in "the other Gulfport"; the one which the city council doesn't like to admit exists. All they care about is their precious boutique historic district. I think they're all secretly related to Rick Baker.

Am I missing something. I may not be the shiniest coin in the batch but duh... if you have the license plate number don't that tell you where they live ? Oh yeah i forgot, the car was mysteriously stolen last night ? Which is what they will claim...lol I agree with tfa and shutyouryap getting like old west, and will only change when citizens shoot back first, ask questions later. I am older then dirt, look like easy prey but ever see any of them old charles bronson movies...lol

You do not think honest citizens should be able to protect themselves? Then maybe you should tell these pieces of trash to stop robbing and shooting innocent victims,or maybe we can send them too you and you can hold their hands and find out why they are so angry. They are probably just misunderstood and you can hug them and tell them they are being silly....
I can not see how protecting yourself is turning the Tampa Bay area into the wild west.

Luis Oerez and Brant James you should really proofread your work better before posting to the website. And they call it journalism. This crime really sucks that it happened but when the economy sucks crime goes up.

Guess I should proofread better too sorry its supposed to be Luis Perez. But then again I don't get paid big money to write articles either

"Reality" Did you or did you not see that they gave a tag number. Why would they pull you if your tag # doesn't match the one that was given. Some people just can't be pleased. They only gave you info that was given to them.

Got Em Hatin,
The story did not have that info originally. Just like it did not mention black males in their teens.
Posted by: Reality | Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 08:14 AM
The information was incomplete.
How can the public help the police
when we do not know the race of the robbers?
The tag number probably won't help either.
Either the car or the tag (or both)
were probably stolen.
If the police know, then the paper should be obligated to print the information.
Black, White, Asian, or Hispanic?

When a crime happened to my family last year, the Times reported it as having been done by a tall thin man. Not a tall thin black man which was the case. And notice how the Times's mugshot page reports on almost every statistic (eye color, hair color) except race? The first step in solving a problem is acknowledging it exists. And the problem is a high crime rate in the African American community.
