Naked woman knocks on door, asks for cigarettes

A Clearwater woman looking for cigarettes needed more than a smoke, police say.

She needed some clothes.

Monica L. Wood, 52, was arrested early today and faces misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct.

According to Pinellas County sheriff’s deputies, Wood knocked on a person’s door late during the night while in the nude to ask for cigarettes. Deputies said they later found the suspect walking through a nearby mobile home park wearing only boxer shorts.

Wood was arrested at 2:35 a.m. in the 2400 block of Gulf to Bay Blvd. Her bail was set at $250.

Wood was released shortly after noon today.

Don, I have insurance and I pay through the nose for it. I just hope that in my old age I can still afford to pay through the nose for it without wiping out my retirement. Are you really proud to be an American who offers going to Cuba for medical care as any sort of alternative to what we have here? FYI, I have lived in other countries (France and England) where medical care is public and free. The level of care their was much better and a whole lot less stressful than anything I have ever been through in the US. Imagine, people actually going to the doctor when they need to go and not just when when they can afford to, or just "when it gets so bad they have to". No co-pays, no percentage left uncovered, no drugs you can't afford, no nurse asking you, "how you are going pay for this?" It just boggles most American's minds.

Sorry Mike, but our medical system is the best in the world only for those that can afford it. Additionally, the idea that "socialized" or other such medical systems are too expensive is simply wrong. We actually pay MORE, far more, per capita for medical care between tax money being spent and insurance, etc. than any of the countries with "free" healthcare. If EVERYONE could get regular, preventative health care without destroying their finances, they wouldn't have to then wait until it's an emergency that costs tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to deal with, which is often then taken care of by tax money or tax write-offs of losses by the hospitals/doctors when the patient can't pay for it. We are paying much more money for much more limited service.

Actually, working in the mental-health care field, I can arguably surmise, that a great use of funds is a direct result of medication waste. I work with VA as well as other Gov't funded organizations, and I see first hand how expensive medications are issued, dis-continued and changed/substituted on a progressively rapid rate. On any given day, I am easily disposing of $1000+ worth of medications. In some cases these meds are unopened and unused. It's astonishing how psych's are treating patients from a "trial & error" perspective.
